Dog fouling still a major concern

Sara Gahan

It was reported at the recent Gorey Municipal District monthly meeting that dog fouling is still a major concern in the area.

Cllr Malcolm Byrne said Gorey Town Park and Ramsfort Wood is a major problem with dog fouling, while Cllr Robbie Ireton said dog fouling is getting worse everywhere in the district.

Gerry Forde, Senior Engineer in Wexford County Council, suggested that councillors give the black spots of where dog fouling is a concern so wardens can make their presence known there to stop people offending.

'Some people don't seem to care,' said Cllr Byrne. 'We need to target these areas for a time rather than a once off. They need to get the message that this is not acceptable and make an example of them.'

Cllr Ireton said the main problem about dog fouling is kids are playing in the area and that is not fair on them.

'People are just selfish and they never think to clean up after themselves,' said Cllr Ireton.

Mr Forde said they can make a presentation next year of these black spots that councillors wish to target.
