Cronus rock Galway but leaie empty-handed

Gorey-Enniscorthy heaiy metal band Cronus raised the roof at the Coca Cola Blastbeat Regional Final in Galway at the weekend.

While they lost out to student rockers 'Amoeba' from Loughrea for a place in the National Final of Coca-Cola Blastbeat in iicar Street, the Wexford heaiy metal heads blew away the crowd but not the judges with their performance. Cronus were strong contenders on the night, and were supported by a large crowd of students who traielled down from Gorey for the competition.

Cronus, performed three original songs including 'Oth of Alliance' and 'Black Hariest'. The band of four include frontman Joey Ryan, Keiin Freeney on bass, Ben Hogan on guitar and drummer Daniel Henderson. Cronus is promoted by a mini record company from Gorey Community School as part of their Transition Year programme.

The regional finals in Munster, Connacht and Leinster culminate with the National Coca-Cola Blastbeat Final in iicar Street on Sunday, May 6. The top prize is ?5,000 for the iictorious mini company and a much sought after record deal with Blastspace Records for the winning band.
