Councillors wear the Irish poppy

MOST OF the Councillors and officials wore a new Irish poppy at the County Council meeting in County Hall last Monday afternoon in remembrance of the Irish men and women who fought in the World Wars.

The poppies, which feature a green shamrock in the centre, were distributed by Labour Cllr. Robert Ireton, who got the poppies from former Fine Gael TD Paddy Harte in Donegal during a conference on remembrance.

The poppies were also distributed at the Remembrance Service in Christ Church in Gorey on Sunday morning last.

'It was the first time I wore an Irish poppy,' said Cllr. Ireton. 'I have no problem wearing the normal poppy either and never had. It commemorates the Irish as well as the English who fell during times of war.'
