Community Placename Project huge success with schools
Gorey Library was a hive of activity on Thursday as a number of Community Placename Collection Project events took place.
Dr Katie Ní Loingsigh from the Meitheal Duchas and Logainm Community Placename Project in DCU facilitated two school workshops for Gorey Central School and Colaiste an Atha, Kilmuckridge.
Both groups got an overview of the project before getting some hands-on instructions in the computer suite. The project encourages involvement from all age groups to record local placenames and other folklore.
In the evening, Dr Katie gave another presentation about the project to members of the public and the North Wexford Historical Society prior to their monthly lecture, which was given by Judith Devlin on The Russian Revolution.
Gorey librarian Barbara Nolan said there was great interest in the Logainm project and lots of questions were put to Katie about the finer details of using the website which she was happy to answer.
