Citizens Information office to move to suited area

Sara Gahan

Citizens Information Service in Gorey have been granted permission by Wexford County Council to move their premises to a more suited area at The Palms on The Avenue, Gorey.

They currently rent a property on a lane way off Pearse Street in Gorey. The application said the 'facilities are not suitable for access for people with certain needs and disabilities'.

County Wexford Citizens Information Services lodged the application to rent the property for long term use to provide a non-fee paying advice service to the area.

Citizens Information require the property on The Avenue as it is a ground floor unit which is easily accessible for abled and disabled clients and it has public and private car parks in close proximity.

The application was previously refused by the landlord of the property for change of use from 'retail' to other, in order to facilitate Citizens Information Service needs.

The office on Pearse Street is accessed via a lane way and there were a number of safety concerns due to it's narrowness and the fact it is in constant use by delivery vehicles. These vehicles are required to reverse down the lane to conduct their work.

Existing from the office requires great care as there is no room for error due to the inability to see in advance if the way is clear. Notices have been erected on the door highlighting that care needs to be exercised when existing.
