Gorey's Christmas lights which were erected in recent weeks have survived the recent storms intact and are set to add festive cheer to the town towards the end of November.

The trees on Main Street were recently given a much needed pruning, and the Christmas lights committee has decided to use a template to support the lights on the trimmed-down trees. This, it is hoped will give the lights a more uniform appearance.

Last year saw a major investment in new Christmas lights, and a new public sound system for the town. The arrival of the new lights meant that the Big Switch On attracted an enormous crowd, and it is hoped that this year's event will be even better than last year.

The Big Switch on will take place on Saturday, November 25. A stage will once again be set up at the top of Main Street with entertainment for the crowds before Santa arrives at 7.30 p.m. to switch on the town's lights.

A special viewing area for those with a disability will be set up near the front of the stage.
