Gorey Civil Defence instructor Celestine Swords was recently honoured for his years of contribution to the organisation when he was presented with a long service medal at a function in Croke Park.

Celestine's service with Civil Defence started in May 1986, and since then, he has trained in rescue and first aid skills. He became an instructor in 1989, and in May 2012 he was awarded an Emergency Medical Technician license from the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council.

He received his 30-year long service medal from Paul Kehoe, the Minister of State with special responsibility for Defence.
