Castletown run is a huge hit
The annual Dan Murphy St Stephen's Day Run at Castletown, held on a bright crisp day, offered runners and walkers a choice of 5km and 10km routes which took in some spectacular coastal views.
Some 60 runners, 60 walkers, and 60 under age participants sent off from the Golden Anchor. The winner of the timed 10k run was Des Kennedy who was home in 34 minutes and two seconds. Myles Gibbons was second and Iain O'Byrne was third. The ladies' winner was Niamh Garvey.
This year's event was run in aid of sports equipment for Castletown, Coolgreany, and Tara Hill schools, and it's hoped that close to €2,500 was raised.
Heartwarming stew was kindly provided by the Golden Anchor team for the runners and walkers when they arrived back at base.
Sincere thanks went to all who took part, all who helped, those who made donations, to the Golden Anchor, and to Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club for providing the stewards along the route.
