Byrne wins place in Euro 'top 40'
GOREY Councillor Malcolm Byrne has been named as one of the European 40 Under 40, in the European Young Leaders Programme.
Malcolm said that being included on the list was 'a nice honour' and said it would provide him with a great networking opportunity.
'I'll be travelling to Brussels shortly to meet with the other 39,' he said.
According to its website, the organisation says the '40 UNDER 40' – European Young Leaders, led by EuropaNova and Friends of Europe, 'aims to promote a European identity by engaging 40 of the European Union's brightest minds in initiatives that will shape Europe's future.'
The programme was launched in 2011, with seminars having already taken place in Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Athens.
Alongside being a Wexford County Councillor and Gorey Town Councillor, Malcolm is Head of Communications with the Higher Education Authority which advises government on higher education and research, and funds the higher education institutions.
Malcolm is a former Vice-President of the National Youth Council of Ireland; former Education Officer with the Union of Students in Ireland; and a former executive member of the European Students Union.
