Busy time for Tidy Towns volunteers

Gorey Tidy Towns group is encouraging everyone to get into the spirit of National Spring Clean Month, and to help keep their local area clean and litter free. Chairperson Liz Kenny and her committee are asking people to dispose of their litter in bins around town or to take it home and dispose of it.

'This applies to dog waste also as this is a big problem everywhere. People who walk their dogs must be responsible for picking up after their pet and binning it,' she said.

Tidy Towns volunteers go out on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings, picking up litter and maintaining projects around the town. All are welcome along to help.

They recently finished a project on the Arklow Road, in conjunction with Gorey Municipal District and Gateway, where an old hedge was taken out; the area cleaned; and sustainable planting introduced. 'There were some mature trees already inside the hedge and they are now more visible,' stated Liz. 'This is the first phase of cleaning up the entrance into Gorey from the Dublin /Arklow side.'
