Youth Needs Thanks

THE Friends of Gorey District Hospital will hold their Annual General Meeting in the Loch gCarman Arms Hotel, Gorey, on Tuesday, February 26, at 7.30 p.m. all are welcome to attend.

World Day of Prayer

THE WORLD Day of Prayer takes place at Gorey Methodist Church, on Thursday, February 28, at 8 p.m. The theme of this service is 'I was a stranger and you welcomed me', prepared by the Christian women of France. The Gorey speaker is Mick Redmond and all are welcome.

Leskfinfere Whist

DEIRDRE Power was the top score at the Leskinfere Whist Drive on February 12 last. In the ladies' section, Dolores Rapple was first; Peggy Nolan was second; Eilish Murphy was third; and the half-time winners were Meg Doyle and Keith Bailey.

In the gents' section Maeve Tomkins was first; Naomi Tomkins was second; Terry Gibney was third; and the half-time winner was Sadie Mordaunt.

The ticket prizes were won by: George Stephens (2); Florence Kavanagh; Sadie Owens (2); Sadie Mordaunt; and Cecily Jones.

Old Folks AGM

GOREY Old Folks Club, Sean O'Byrne Park, Gorey, will hold its AGM on Wednesday, February 27, at 8 p.m. in the Old Folks Hall.

All are welcome along, new members most especially.


THE NWSPCA is looking to hear from women interested in taking part in the Dublin Women's Mini Marathon in aid of the animal welfare charity.

Entry forms for the marathon, which takes place on Monday June 3, are now available online at or postal entry forms appear in the Evening Herald every Wednesday and Saturday.

The closing date is Wednesday, April 24, or when the number of entries is reached, so register early.

Any women who are interested in taking part for the registered local charity, can contact the North Wexford SPCA on 087 6392539 or through their Facebook page, and a sponsorship card and race t-shirt will be issued.

The Society reminds people that all monies raised stay in the North Wexford economy providing animal welfare services.

Gorey Heartsafe

THE NEXT Gorey Heartsafe meeting is on Monday, March 11, in the Loch gCarman Arms Hotel, Gorey, at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and join us.

Our next training class is on Friday, February 22, between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 12, and Wednesday, March 20, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Wednesday, April 3, between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. in The Ashdown Park Hotel.

Youth Needs Thanks

GOREY Youth Needs sends a big thank you to everybody who very kindly donated to Gorey Youth Needs Group at its recent Church Gate Collection.

A total of €432 was raised.

Cats Aid news

CATS Aid, Gorey, which is a registered charity (9769) has two beautiful silver tabby cats looking for a kind, loving, safe home. Woody is a neutered male, approx. two years old, and very friendly. Rangers Book

GOREY Rangers 50th anniversary book is back on sale. This is the last batch of these books that will be printed so it will be a great chance to remember those photos from great days in our club's history. So don't delay and get to Maureen's and pick up your book for just €10. Limited amount!

Kilmuckridge Drama

THE KILMUCKRIDGE Drama Festival takes place at the KMH from Friday, February 22 next, to Saturday, March 2. The shows start nightly at 8 p.m. Tickets are €10 for adults or €5 for children, and patrons' tickets are available from committee members at €50.

Cuisle Cheoil

THE CUISLE Cheoil traditional music festival takes place this weekend in Gorey. The festival will be officially opened in Gorey Library by Gorey's Olympic Gold Medallist, Darragh McDonald, on Friday, February 22, at 8 p.m. and will be followed by music sessions in various pubs around the town including The Loch gCarman Arms, Katie Daly's and French's as well as a traditional singing session in The Coach House.

Among the activities on Saturday will be a lecture and presentation based on the traditional music section of the Leaving Cert Music programme by Ciarán Somers.

On Saturday afternoon there's a presentation from Nora Kavanagh on the contribution of Seán Ó Riada to traditional music.

Sean-nós dancer, Úna Ní Fhlatharta will give a workshop in The Loch gCarman Arms.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Festival Concert in Gorey Little Theatre on Saturday night, followed by a monster music session in the Loch gCarman Arms. Admission to the session will be confined to concert patrons holding their ticket portion.

Concert tickets at €15 are available from Leacy's Menswear, Gorey, and the Loch gCarman Arms, Gorey.

Sunday's programme includes a recital by youth groups from the Wexford/Wicklow area, a set dancing workshop, and the festival will end on a lively note with a set dance ceili in the Loch gCarman Arms Hotel on Sunday night.
