A large audience gathered in the Ashdown Park Hotel on Thursday evening for a talk by inspirational speaker Enda O'Doherty who is best known as the man who carried a washing machine on his back and walked from Belfast to Waterford.

The talk, entitled 'The Best Your Child Can Be', raised €2,300 for local charity Talk to Tom. Enda gave great advice on how to make positive changes.

Ray Cullen of Talk to Tom opened the night with an overview of the work they do and spoke of the increasing problem of suicide and self-harm, especially in younger people.

'People were visibly shocked by the very high rates of suicide,' said organiser Mary Flemming.

Enda told the audience he used to be an alcoholic, with periods of suicidal thinking. He managed to alter his own life journey and demonstrated there is hope for everyone if they make positive changes in their lives. The second half of the night, Enda gave loads of practical study tips and how one can improve their efficiency and technique.
