St Vincent de Paul appeal this weekend
Ahead of the annual St Vincent de Paul Appeal at churches this weekend, Bishop Denis Brennan is urging people to give generously to the collection which will go towards helping those in need this Christmas.
The collection will take place at all churches this weekend, December 1 and 2. In a letter, Bishop Brennan said there were those were not sharing in the general economic recovery that people were hearing about daily.
He said he had met members of the local St Vincent de Paul chapter and had heard of the problems being experienced.
He referred to 'food and fuel poverty', and the phrase 'Neighbours helping neighbours' which is a logo of the St Vincent de Paul.
He remarked: 'We owe and immense debt of gratitude to those who act as members of local conferences and who make the needs of others a priority in their weekly life. The Saint Vincent de Paul is truly a marvellous organisation and it is deserving of any support we can provide it.'
He encouraged people to pray for those in need and the volunteers in the St Vincent de Paul, asked that they offer what they could to the collection, and asked them to consider joining their own local chapter and volunteering.
