Slaney will be reopened

The River Slaney will reopen for salmon fishing again this year on a catch and release basis.

Last week Minister Sean Kyne approved new regulations for wild salmon and trout fishing for 2018.

One of the new regulations will see the River Slaney reopen for salmon fishing on a catch and release basis from May 1. The river had been closed for salmon fishing in 2017 in a bid to replenish and conserve fish stocks.

Under the new regulations the Slaney will remain closed until April 30 while a catch and release policy will come into operation from May 1.
