Pipers to march in memory of Tom
All are invited to celebrate and honour the memory of the popular former Pipe Major Tom Doyle for the first Tom Doyle Memorial March that will take place on Saturday, August 3 at 2 p.m. and is being organised by Gorey Pipe Band to coincide with the Market House Festival.
'We are giving something back to the town Tom loved so well. On the day, the mass pipe band will gather at Gorey hospital and will be led by an arrangement of soldiers from different eras. These are all a part of the Enniscorthy Re-enactment Society, and it will begin with the Normans, on to the 1798 pike men, 1916 and war of independence, ' the organisers said.
Pipers from all over are invited to take part in the march, and all money raised from the event will go towards Gorey Hospital and North Wexford Hospice Homecare.
The family of the late Tom Doyle, who passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer wish to give back, raise awareness and say a big thanks to Gorey Hospital and North Wexford Hospice Homecare for the assistance and care Tom received during his illness.
'Tom was an avid and long standing member of Gorey Pipe Band for the past 45 years, marching the streets of Gorey for many years supporting lots of different charities. Tom was a big lover of Gorey town, being a member of many clubs in the town during his life including Gorey Rugby Club and Gorey Rangers Soccer Club. Tom fought a hard battle with cancer for over four years and this inspired friends and family to honour him by giving something back,' the organisers said.
Bucket collectors will be out in force on the day, and the organisers ask that you please dig deep for these worthy causes.
