The pupils of Kilnamanagh proved that numbers don't count for everything, when they lifted the Trent Johnston trophy recently.

Even though the school has just 23 pupils, they fielded a cricket team which recently won a local schools' cricket tournament.

Four schools that received cricket training from Leinster Cricket and Gorey Cricket Club were invited to take part in the tournament at Courtown Hibs soccer grounds.

Last year's winners Gorey Central School went up against Kilanerin, while Ballaghkeen took on Kilnamanagh. The event began with the players being led on to the pitch by piper John Cullen.

In the end, Kilanerin and Kilnamanagh met in the final, and Kilnamanagh won by 20 runs. Trophy sponsor Trent Johnston's wife Vanessa was on a visit home from Australia and was on hand to present Kilnamanagh captain Jake Walsh with the trophy. All at Gorey Cricket Club congratulated the team on the win.

Cricket coaching was provided to around 15 schools this year by Gorey Cricket Club and Leinster Cricket.
