The Gorey FAI Summer School programme has been a great success this year with over 160 children taking part in the exciting weekly camps.

Head Coach Ger Feeney said the camps aim to provide children between the ages of six to 14 the opportunity to attend a fun environment with friends during their summer holidays, while learning soccer techniques and skills.

'I have been coaching here for many years, every summer the popularity of the FAI camp just keeps on growing,' said Ger. 'Before this, I was the coach for 15 years with Ross Celtic.'

Along with playing serious matches and learning some important skills, the kids took part in a Crazy Hair Day competition. The overall winner was Jorja Hennell who had multi-coloured hair in a Mohawk style.

'It is all about having fun as well,' added Ger.

When this newspaper arrived at the FAI Summer School at Gorey Rangers, the kids were eager to say what their favourite part of the camp is and what soccer team they support.

Brothers James and Pat Kavanagh told this newspaper they both like the goalkeeper programme of the camp.

'We both love and support Man United as well,' they added.

Casey Kennedy, who was busy taking shots against his friends, said his favourite part was learning and practicing penalties. The young man said he supported Liverpool.

Every year lots of boys and girls of all abilities turn out to enjoy five days of soccer.

'I like being with all of my friends and doing drills,' said Leanne Wolohan, who supports Southampton. Her best friends, Grace Doyle, Abby O'Sullivan and Learra Kinsella, also said they like spending time with each other while developing their techniques and skills in soccer, and eating lunch together.

The FAI Summer School Programme, which is sponsored by Sports Direct.com, will continue for the month of August in various venues across north Wexford. For more information or to book a place, call FAI camps on 1890 653 653 or visit their website www.summersoccerschools.ie
