The Gorey Active Retirement bowls team have returned home after a successful few days at the All Ireland Indoor Bowls competition held in the Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar.

Sadly, the team of four called 'Just Gorey' did not win the final after being defeated in the semi-final by team 'Suir' from county Waterford, who won 15 to 1. Team 'Suir' also went on to win the final against 'Myshall Green'.

Anne Slator, a team member, explained they had to recruit an additional two members from different areas because of low numbers.

Eileen Kealy from Carlow and May Hurley from Avoca, county Wicklow gave a helping hand to Anne and Ann Ward from 'Just Gorey' who then went all the way to the semi-final.

'We stayed in the hotel for the week as the bowls went on over three days,' said Anne. 'We had a great time. The hotel had music at night.'

New faces are always welcome to Gorey Active Retirement who meet in the Loch Garman Arms, on Friday's, from 11 a.m., until 1 p.m.
