Gorey & district notice board

Summer bridge - Gorey Boxing Club will play host to Gorey summer bridge, costing €5 per person running every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. sharp during June, July and August.

There will be no joker system but if you need a partner you can call 087 645 3868 and the team will try find you one.

Food bank

Gorey Christian Assembly is hosting a weekly food bank from now on, on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for those in need of a food parcel, a hot beverage or just a bit of company.

All are welcome to attend at Gorey Christian Assembly Building located on the Heath, Ramsgate Village, Gorey and there is no charge or strings attached.

Gorey Active Retirement

The committee may consider another cruise next year if members are interested, as the cruise to The Seychells, The channel Isles and down the Seine to Monet's garden was a great success with everyone enjoying it .

August 14 will see the mystery trip, costing €50 per person and the committee advise to book early as it's very popular.

September 16 to 20 will see the autumn break in the Quality Hotel in Youghal for four nights, dinner, bed and breakfast, with entertainment each night and trips out each day.

The cost is €300 per person sharing either double, twin or apartment, with single room supplement €80 and non refundable deposit of €50 is needed to book a place.

October 16 will see the South East Region ten pin bowling fun day at Leisure Max Wexford, starting at 10.30 a.m.

If interested talk to Frances or Ann and note that all Booking, payment and inquiries should be made on Fridays in Loch Garman Arms between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Non members are very welcome to check out activities by dropping into the Loch Garman Arms.

There is some activity on most days of the week but note that summer closure will be to September 2.

RNLI shop

Shop for gifts that help save lives at sea as the RNLI lifeboat shop on the North Pier has lots of new arrivals of souvenirs and clothing, and gifts to suit any occasion.

The shop will be open from daily from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. throughout the month.

Heritage Week

National Heritage Week will take place in Gorey during August 17 to 25 and Gorey Library will have events throughout the week.

A memoir from Barra Boydell entitled Rebellious Ferment will delves into music and artistry in Ireland in the early 1940s, and takes place on Tuesday, August 20, at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. there will be a design discussion with artist Réiltín Murphy talking about books and book binding.

There will also be children's events.

Summer reading

Join a reading adventure at Gorey library in a reading-based programme free to all children. Search www.summerstarts.ie for recommended books based on age groups.

Children sign up at thelibrary, keep records of the books they read at the end receive a certificate of achievement.

GROW meetings

GROW, Ireland's largest community-based mental health organisation will hold meetings weekly on Mondays at 10 a.m. at the Loch Garman Arms Hotel and Thursdays, 10 a.m. at Tesco Extra Store, Ramstown, Gorey.

All are welcome to come along for free, to discover personal growth, prevention and full recovery from all kinds of mental illness.

Groups are free, confidential and open to all, no referral or booking needed.

Comhaltas Seisiún

CCE Gorey/Ballygarrett weekly trad session will take place every Monday throughout the summer at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms.

Adults are €5 per session, children are free, all welcome.

Trans support group

Gorey Youth Needs is providing monthly support meetings for adults in a non-judgemental environment for those who identify as trans or non-binary and for those who are questioning, to express themselves freely and find support.

Fashion Show

Dressado hosts its first ever fashion show for the Irish Cancer Society on Thursday, September 1 at the Amber Springs Hotel from 7 p.m., tickets €47.50.

All welcome for a night of entertainment.

SVP Shop donations

The St Vincent de Paul furniture shop in Gorey welcome donations of good, clean sale worthy furniture, bric-á-brac, rugs etc.

The team will come and collect the furniture or any items.

The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

Ladies Club

The Courtown and Riverchapel Ladies Club will take its break for the summer months and will return on September 9.

The group is open to everybody, of all ages and genders.

Cricket visit

Leinster coaches will be at Gorey Cricket Club at Courtown Hibs FC on Wednesday, August 7 to provide a day of cricket coaching for girls and boys aged seven to 16.

Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill Gorey shop is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

They team are currently accepting donations of clothing, footwear, homewares, CDs, DVDs and furniture.

To volunteer, call into the shop for a form.

Golf Classic

All are invited to Ballymoney Golf Club on Friday, August 30 for the annual golf classic in aid of St Columba's Old Folks Club, Gorey.

It is €100 for a team of four.

Social dancing

All are invited to social dancing in aid of Gorey Musical Society at Kilanerin Parish Hall on Friday, August 16 at 9.30 p.m. with special guests Theresa and the Stars.

Admission is €10 and there will be tea and prizes galore, all welcome.

Gorey Night Run

Gorey Night Run returns on August 15 starting from 7 p.m. at the Monument in Gorey.

Registration can be made at Boots, Gorey.

Admission for adults is €10 and it's €5 for under 16s, drop in for more details.

Puppet show

A Puppet Show will take place every Sunday throughout August at Courtown Funpark in Courtown Harbour.

This free family entertainment runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and all are welcome to attend and join in the fun.

Historical tours

The summer tour for August tour is to Dunbrody Abbey and St Mullins on Saturday, August 17.

This tour will be led by John Nangle, who can be contacted on 086 3958655 for bookings.

A bus will leave Gorey Civic Centre at 8.30 a.m. at a cost of €30 for members.

Those wishing to attend must have their society membership fees paid in full.

Methodist Church

Explorer's Summer Camp will run from Monday, August 12, to Friday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and is available to children of national school age, five to 12 years old.

Cost is €10 per child, and there is a family discount available.

Juice and fruit will be provided as well as learning about faith and friendship.

Car boot sale

There will be a car boot sale in the grounds of the Old School in aid of Christ Church Gorey on Saturday, August 10, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. with refreshments served. Gates open at 8 a.m., and the cost is €10 for cars to take part and €15 for vans, all welcome.

All funds raised will go to the upkeep of Gorey's Christ Church and Gorey Musical Society will also benefit.

Gap Arts Fest

The festival begins on Friday, August 9, at Ballythomas School with the drama To Hell in a Handbag.

There will be further entertainment throughout the weekend, with a recital and photo exhibition.

Admission is €12, and the play starts at 8 p.m. and it will also be performed on Saturday at the same time.

On Friday, there will be a late night outdoor family movie at 10.15 p.m. The film is the classic 'Babe' and admission is free.

On Saturday, TheGig@TheGap will begin at 6 p.m. and run until late.

Young musicians and singers are being mentored and will have a chance to perform in public as the Gap Music Collective. Part of the Gap's policy of encouraging young artists.

Those attending will see local singer-songwriters Patricia Lalor, Rachel Grace and Ella Montague do a set.

On Sunday, there will be family friendly classical piano and violin recital 1 p.m.
