Gorey and district community noticeboard

Gorey Active Retirement: Gorey Active Retirement meet in the Loch Garman Arms on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

A day trip to Kilkenny will take place on Wednesday, December 5.

The cost is €15 per person. The bus will leave the Ashdown Park Hotel at 10 a.m. Book a place on Fridays in the Loch Garman Arms.

Christmas dinner and dance will take place on Tuesday, December 11, at 5.30 p.m., in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

Music will be by The Wicklow Man. Admission is €23 per person. Book or pay on Friday in the Loch Garman Arms.

There will be a trip to the Motown Music Matinee in the Bord Gais Theatre on February 9.

The cost is €71 including bus. Book and pay deposit of €30 by December 7 to secure theatre booking.

All welcome to attend to find out about the organisation and its activities.

The usual activities of bowls, darts, walk, Go for Life, art, Irish are on every week.

€16,249 for Hospice team

Wexford Hospice Homecare committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported Ireland's Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice together with Bewley's.

This year, a total amount of €16,249 was raised and all funds will be used to benefit and enhance the local services of Wexford Hospice Homecare.

Coffee mornings were held in offices, shops, banks, community centres and private houses across the district.

Exhibition at Gorey library

To commemorate the centenary of the death of John Redmond, Irish Parliamentary Party leader, Wexford County Council presents an exhibition describing the life and legacy of John E Redmond and his remarkable contribution to Ireland's political landscape.

It is on display in Gorey Library for the month of November.

Art exhibition

Poland 100th Anniversary of Independence Amateur Art Exhibition will take place in Gorey Library until Tuesday, November 27.

All are welcome to attend this exhibition.

Sleep hygiene

Sleep hygiene strategies with Deirdre McSwiney will take place in Gorey Library on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 p.m.

Learn how to develop good sleep habits and help tackle insomnia and sleep deprivation. Deirdre is an insomnia and sleep technologist who honed her skills in the Mater Private Hospital Sleep Disorders Clinic.

She featured in the recent RTÉ TV documentary 'Awake: The Science of Sleep'.

Book club

The Page Turners Junior Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 27, at 3.30 p.m., to discuss The Secret Life of Daisy Fitzjohn by Tania Unsworth.

WWI lecture

Ireland and the First World War: Wexford Soldiers' Wills and Letters with Hugh McShane will take place in Gorey Library on Thursday, November 29, at 7.30 p.m.

This illustrated talk looks at Ireland's involvement in WWI and the many young soldiers whose wills and letters survived them.

Four weddings and a funeral

Camolin Community Development Association present a hilarious comedy production 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' in the Ashdown Park Hotel on Friday, November 30, at 9 p.m.

The production will be followed by a wedding band and DJ till late ensuring a great night's entertainment.

Tickets are €10. There will be door prizes and a raffle.

The proceeds will be donated to 'Bann River Eco Walk' project established by Camolin Community Development Association.

Bunscoil to stage Annie

Bunscoil Loreto will showcase two nights of the musical Annie in Gorey Little Theatre on Thursday, December 6, and Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at Bunscoil Loreto Gorey.

Bunscoil Loreto Gorey said all support would be greatly appreciated. Proceeds raised will go towards the school.

NWHS

The North Wexford Historical Society annual Christmas dinner will be held in the Coach House on Friday, December 7, at 7 p.m.

For those wishing to attend, the cost will be €25. This can be paid in Gorey Library foyer on Thursday, November 15, from 6.30 p.m., until 7.30 p.m.

AGM

The AGM of Naomh Éanna GAA Club (Adult, Coiste na nOg, Camogie and Ladies Football will take place on Friday, December 7, at 7.30 p.m., in the complex.

All nominations for officers, committee, team selectors and motions must be in with the club secretary Padraig Cronin by 5 p.m., on Friday, November 30.

Children's Christmas fair

Children's Christmas Fair takes place on Saturday, December 8, in the Amber Springs Hotel, from noon, until 4 p.m.

There will be a raffle, games and disco. All proceeds raised go towards LauraLynn Foundation.

ICA meeting

Gorey ICA meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 11, in the Loch Garman Arms, at 8 p.m. New members welcome.

IUNVA Post 28

IUNVA Post 28 Gorey 2nd annual Christmas dinner will take place on Friday, December 14, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms. Call Paddy Brady on 086 0898047 for details.

Digital Club

The Digital Learning Club meet every Tuesday, from 2 p.m. until 3.30 p.m. in Gorey Library, and at 5.30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Hatch Lab (beside the Amber Springs Hotel).

It is a free club where members of the public are encouraged to learn and share digital knowledge.

Members of the public are welcome to attend one or both sessions.

Conradh

Ranganna Gaeilge informal conversation classes facilitated by Conradh na Gaeilge will run every Tuesday evening in Gorey Library at 7 p.m.

The Sean Nós Singing group meet every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. too. Bígi linn

Dance class

A smooth modern jive class takes place in the Bunker Bar, every Tuesday evening from 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m.

This is an adult partner dance that's easy to learn and fun to do.

No experience is necessary and beginners are always welcome. No partner is needed and the class is pay as you go.

Chess Club

Gorey Chess Club meet every Monday at 7 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual and competitive players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.

Carer's group

A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Family Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All are welcome to take part.

These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabilities or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.

RNLI shop

The RNLI Lifeboat shop on the North Pier in Courtown will be open on Saturday and Sunday, from 2 p.m., until 5 p.m., selling Christmas cards, calendars, diaries and souvenirs up until Christmas.

If you miss out, they can also be purchased in Gala stores, the 19th Pub, Dunbars Shop and PO Courtown and Redmond's Dry Cleaners in Gorey.

Toddler time

Toddler Storytime will take place in Gorey Library Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m.

Parents/carers should supervise their toddlers at all times in the Library.

Jack and Jill

The Jack and Jill Foundation shop at number 1, Main Street, which was is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m., until 5.30 p.m., excluding the bank holidays.

They have a large range of items for sale and currently accept donations of clothing, furniture and bric a brac.

If interested in volunteering in the Jack and Jill Gorey, call into the shop for a form.

Charity shop

The St Vincent de Paul furniture shop on McDermott Street, Gorey, welcomes donations of clean saleable furniture, including rugs, lamps, etc.

Gorey Art Circle exhibit

Gorey Art Circle is holding an exhibition of paintings by over 40 local artists in the Market House on Main Street in Gorey.

It will take place on Friday, November 30 until Sunday, December 9, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily.

All are welcome to attend and admission to the exhibition is free.
