Members of Castletown Liam Mellows GAA Club received a well-informative presentation about water safety.

The Castletown Liam Mellows Health Club Project team in conjunction with Declan Long from Courtown RNLI held a number of talks in Coolgreany and Castletown.

The aim is to get RNLI and GAA members working in a community partnership to help raise awareness of water safety and try to drop accidental drowning by 50 per cent by 2024.

Declan spoke about what to do if cause in a rip tide. He said do not swim against it, swim to the side. Lie on your back, spread arms, legs and float. Try to get breathing under control and then try to swim to safety or call for help.

'Always were a life jacket when participating in water sports and respect the water at all times,' said Declan.

The participants said the presentation and talk was great.
