Councillors commend various achievements

A number of local groups and individuals were commended for their achievements at the recent meeting of Wexford Co Council.

Cllr Jim Moore began by congratulating the village of Our Lady's Island for winning the Islands and Coastal Communities category at the Pride of Place Awards, remarking that the awards showed communities in a positive light.

Cllr Malcolm Byrne extended his congratulations to Coolgreany Drama Group who won the All Ireland Confined One-Act Drama Festival, saying it was in keeping with the great tradition Wexford had for the arts.

Cllr Michael Whelan congratulated ploughmen John Whelan, who reclaimed his world ploughing title in Kenya, and near neighbour Eamonn Tracey who won second place in his class.

Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy congratulated Cumas New Ross who also entered the Pride of Place Awards, and the Enniscorthy Vocational College students who had achieved A marks in their politics exams.

Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Hegarty congratulated both Kilanerin and Fethard, who had secured Leinster titles in Intermediate football and Junior hurling respectively.
