The newly-opened extension at Coláiste an Átha, Kilmuckridge, was given the thumbs up by all who took a look around the school at its recent open evening.

Fifth and sixth year pupils from schools in Kilmuckridge, Monamolin, Ballygarrett, Kilnamanagh, Blackwater, Boolavogue and Oulart, were among those who went along with their families to have a look around the school and learn more about what's on offer.

The extension includes a new music room and a science room and students and teachers gave practical demonstrations in the respective subject areas. The metalwork, woodwork, art, computer, and home economics rooms were also full of activity. Information was available on the range of subjects offered, and extra-curricular activities were highlighted. The school gym was full of action, with sports such as GAA, soccer, rugby and badminton showcased.

Principal Elizabeth Martin said that many visitors commented on the sense of community at the school and how well the students are looked after. Those intending to apply for first year next year are invited to attend an enrolment evening at the school on Tuesday, November 21, between 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. and to return their application forms.

Other upcoming school events of interest to the public include a talk by former Mountjoy prison governor John Lonergan in the Upton Court Hotel on Monday, November 13, at 7 p.m., and the school Christmas market on Friday, November 24.
