Around the districts: Coolgreany, Craanford-Monaseed, Kilanerin-Ballyfad, Tara Hill

Coolgreany: Split-the-pot. Congratulations to Eimear Lynch, the winner of our Friday, June 7, draw, winning €61. The next draw will be on Friday, June 21, so be sure to enter. €2 Envelopes are available from the school, Jim Short's, Londis Inch, Coolgreany Inn, O'Rafferty's and Martina Bolger's Hair. This will be our final draw of this school year. Draws will continue as normal every fortnight from September. The parents' association committee would like to thank everyone who supports this. The Coolgreany Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, July 7, in Coolgreany, and plans are advancing favourably for that day. This is always a very worthwhile day out with some lovely trophies and cups to be won in all of the different horse and pony events, and also some great jumping in all of the Children's jumping classes.

In conjunction with the Gymkhana there will be a Monster Raffle, with tickets on sale at present. The prize money here is first prize of €500, second prize of €200, and three other prizes of €100 each. Tickets are €2 each or book of three tickets is €5. Draw will take place on day of Gymkhana. All proceeds will go to St David's Church Funds. Everyone welcome.

Coolgreany Tidy Towns

It is that time of year again when adjudication of the Tidy Towns Competition is about to begin, and the local committee are appealing for the support of as many as possible to help with the cleaning up of all the roads around the village and in the village itself to help improve the area. Don't forget this is Tidy Towns.


The local barbecue will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 7 p.m. on the Main Street opposite O'Rafferty's Pub, which is usually a very enjoyable family night. On the night there will be a Book Stall Sale where a very large variety of Books will be on sale which may be of great interest to many people, so why not come along and enjoy some nice food and get some good value in reading material. Everyone Welcome.

45 Card Drive

Rathpierce Community Group will hold a 45 Card Drive in the Woodenbridge Hotel on Sunday, June 30, starting at 7.30 p.m. with all proceeds going to further development of the Local Area. Your support would be appreciated.

School Enrolment

Coolgreany National School is now taking enrolment for September 2019. If you wish to enrol your child, please contact the school office for an Application Form at 0402 37246 or call into the office during school hours.


The club is appealing to the community for support for their weekly lotto which has changed slightly due to the closure of the local post office.

Ecumenical Service

The Johnston Coolgreany Ecumenical Service takes place on Thursday night June 20, at 7 p.m. in St Saviour's Church Arklow.All welcome.Light refreshments will be served after the service.

Playground Opening

The official opening of the Monaseed Playground takes place this Saturday, June 22, at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards, and there will be a cake sale on the day.

Craanford Harriers AC

Congratulations to Muireann Kavanagh, who qualified for the all-Ireland's in under-12 shot put on Saturday and well done to Grainne Dennehy, who was placed sixth in the same event.

Best of luck to Brídín Doyle (walk) and Muireann Kavanagh and Grainne Dennehy (turbo javelin) who are competing in Leinster Championships this weekend.

Bus to Gorey?

On June 23 the Michael Kenny memorial hurling tournament will take place.

Pride of Place awards

Craanford is honoured to be nominated by Wexford County Council in this year's Pride of Place awards 2019. Co-operation Ireland, the local authority partners Wexford County Council and its headline sponsor IPB Insurance is proud to present the prestigious Pride of Place Competition for the 17th consecutive year.

The purpose of the competition is to acknowledge the work being done every day by communities all over the island of Ireland. The competition is based on communities demonstrating directly to the judges their pride in their place by oral presentation, exhibitions of community activities and culture and a tour of the area highlighting the aspects of which they are particularly proud. Our adjudication will take place on July 24.


On June 7 the prize of €154 was won by Martina Kelly, a regular bingo patron. Congratulations, Martina. The co-ordinating team for Friday, June 21, is Team 7: Liz Byrne and James Doyle.

CRAANFORD WEEKDAY MASSES - Masses this week will be from Mon to Thursday at 9.15 each day.

VISITATION OF THE SICK/HOUSEBOUND - We are anxious to visit those who cannot celebrate Mass with us due to illness, handicap or age. Arrangements to receive the sacraments at home can be made by calling Fr Richard or Fr Felix. Kindly notify us of parishioners who are housebound or hospitalised so they can be visited. We are always pleased also to receive invitations to visit your home or to give a house blessing.

GAA lotto

Coffee morning

There will be a coffee morning and garden party in the Parochial House Kilanerin on Sunday, June 23. Come along for a cake sale, raffle and a chat. All donations and support very much appreciated. Donations can be left into parochial house on Sunday morning from 10 a.m.

GAA notes

Mixed fortunes for the second Hurling team during the week. A five point loss to Oulart followed two nights later by an 11 point victory over Naomh Eanna.

The first team v Rathnure is postponed till the 24th in the Rock. Saturday the 22nd has the seniors in Fethard in R6 of the league. On Sunday the 23rd, the second football team play Adamstown in Kilanerin at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, most underage boys and girls' teams have Fixtures. Please let mentors know if a player is not available.

Last reminder for the Cúl Camp starting on July 1 in Kilanerin, and the club camp being held in the Rock from July 29.

Tidy towns

Kilanerin Tidy towns is now in full swing now that Spring is here. Clean up each Saturday morning. Meet at the Shamrock Hall parking area work for the time that suits your schedule. All tools, gloves and Hi-Vis vests provided, Come out one day or many all helpers all ages are very welcome. Planting, watering assistance with many maintenance projects also getting going. Pilates continues on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. €6 per class.

Ballyfad ICA

The Ballyfad ICA summer outing will take place on Monday, July 8, departing Ballyfad at 9.15 a.m. We are visiting Ferns Castle, Kilcannon Garden Centre restaurant, the JFK Arboretum and Loftus Hall. We are having our dinner in Farmers Kitchen Hotel, Wexford.

The cost of the trip is €30 excluding lunch and dinner. A deposit of €10 is required when booking before Sunday, June 30.

A coffee and cake sale will take place at the home of Daniel Reeves, Ahare, Castletown, on Saturday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a fundraiser in aid of Gorey community school Gambia youth project. All welcome to come along, and help to raise funds for such a worthy cause.
