Coolgreany: Gymkhana - The annual Johnstown Coolgreany Gymkhana and Field Day will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, July 7, in Coolgreany, and plans are advancing favourably for that day, this is always a very worth - while with some lovely Trophies and Cups to be won in all of the different horse and pony events, and also some great jumping in all of the Children's jumping classes.

In conjunction with the Gymkhana there will be a Monster Raffle, with tickets on sale at present. The prize money here is first prize of €500, second prize of €200, and three other prizes of €100 each. Tickets are €2 each or book of three tickets is €5. Draw will take place on day of Gymkhana. All proceeds will go to St David's Church Funds. Everyone welcome.

Tidy Towns

It is that time of year again when adjudication of the Tidy Towns Competition is about to begin, and the local committee are appealing for the support of as many as possible to help with the cleaning up of all the roads around the village and in the village itself to help improve the area.

Barbecue

The local barbecue will be held on Saturday, June 22, on the Main Street opposite O'Rafferty's Pub, which is usually a very enjoyable night.

On the night there will be a Book Stall Sale where a very large variety of Books will be on sale which may be of great interest to many people, so why not come along and enjoy some nice food and get some good value in reading material.

Vintage Club

A meeting of Coolgreany Vintage Club Members will take place in the Coolgreany Inn on this Wednesday at 8.30 p.m., to start preparations for our vintage day on September 8.

Birthdays

Birthday greetings to Darragh Boland Knockgreany, who celebrates his 17th birthday on June 15, also good wishes to Lucia Merrigan, who celebrates her 19th birthday on June 17. School Enrolment. Handball

The club is appealing to the community for support for their weekly lotto which has changed slightly due to the closure of the local post office.

Congratulations to Brídín Doyle, who was third in the all-Ireland Schools Junior 2k walk. Best of luck to Muireann Kavanagh and Gráinne Dennehy, who will represent the club in the Leinster Championships on Saturday in Tullamore.

Bus to Gorey?

On June 23 the Michael Kenny memorial hurling tournament will take place.

Pride of Place awards

Craanford is honoured to be nominated by Wexford County Council in this year's Pride of Place awards 2019. Co-operation Ireland, the local authority partners Wexford County Council and its headline sponsor IPB Insurance is proud to present the prestigious Pride of Place Competition for the 17th consecutive year. The purpose of the competition is to acknowledge the work being done every day by communities all over the island of Ireland. The competition is based on communities demonstrating directly to the judges their pride in their place by oral presentation, exhibitions of community activities and culture and a tour of the area highlighting the aspects of which they are particularly proud. Our adjudication will take place on July 24.

It takes a village

Margaret Hawkins, who writes the 'It takes a village' feature in the Farmers Journal visited Craanford recently to come and see what our small rural community has achieved with the support of so many. Many thanks to all those who helped out in anyway prior to and during the event.

Split-the-pot

On May 31 the prize of €152 was won by Olive Doyle, a regular bingo patron. Congratulations, Olive. The co-ordinating team for Friday, June 14, is Team 6: Anne Marie O'Sullivan and Oliver Murray.

Playground Opening

The official opening of the Monaseed Playground takes place on Saturday, June 22, at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards, and there will be a cake sale on the day

Kilanerin-Ballyfad

GAA Club notes

No jackpot winner in the lotto on June 4. There were three match-three winners. Next draw is on the 17th for a jackpot of €7,400. The numbers were 5, 12, 18 and 23.

The first Hurling team drew with Craanford but the second footballers beat them a few days later. But team of the week goes to the under-14 A girls' football who beat St Martin's 4-4 to 0-3.

A testing week for the second hurlers, who play Oulart on Monday the 10th in the Rock and Naomh Eanna in Gorey on Wednesday the 12th at 7.30 p.m. That after their good win over Kilmore two weeks ago.

The first hurlers play Rathnure in the Rock on Saturday the 15th at 2 p.m. Meanwhile, the senior footballers will have played St Anne's in Kilanerin on Sunday the ninth at 11.30 a.m. R5 of the league.

Tidy Towns

Kilanerin Tidy towns is now in full swing now that Spring is here. Clean up each Saturday morning. Meet at the Shamrock Hall parking area work for the time that suits your schedule. All tools, gloves and Hi-Vis vests provided, Come out one day or many all helpers all ages are very welcome. Planting, watering assistance with many maintenance projects also getting going. Wedding Anniversary

Congratulations to Joe and Isabelle O'Neill on celebrating 65 years married life. May they continue to have many more happy years of health and happiness together.

Sympathy

The local community would like to express their deepest sympathy to Pat Braham, Kilmurray, on the recent passing of his brother and also to Seán oO Leary, Tara Hill on the passing of his father. Thinking of you all during these difficult times. May they both rest in peace.

Collection thanks

Special Olympics club Gorey area wish to thank all who collected and contributed to their recent church gate collection in Tara Hill. A total of €103.08 was raised. Thank you for your continued support.

Exam time

Best wishes to all students from the tarahill and surrounding areas who are sitting their junior and leaving cert exams at the moment.

School news

book rental in St Kevin's school will take place on Wednesday, June 19, from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

A Skipaton takes place on Friday the 14th. This is an annual school fundraiser. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Garden volunteers are required for the school over the summer holidays. Duties include watering of plants, weeding etc. If interested contacted Betty Lyons in the school.
