Around the districts: Coolgreany, Craanford-Monaseed, Kilanerin-Ballyfad, Tara Hill

Coolgreany: Vintage Tractor/Car Run - Wicklow Vintage Club in conjunction with Ballycoogue District Development Association are holding their annual Vintage Tractor and Car Run on Sunday, May 12, at midday from St Kevin's Hall Ballycoogue. All are most welcome to attend, and homemade refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. Pease come along and enjoy a great day.

Community Alert

Coolgreany Community Alert held a very successful meeting in the May Byrne House on last Thursday night, April 18. Dr Miriam Birch made an excellent presentation on High Cholesterol which was very well received. Following this Denis O'Connor, psychotherapist gave a very interesting talk on family bereavement to the very large attendance present, followed by questions and answers. The meeting closed with the chairman Dan Kennedy thanking both speakers for their excellent presentations.

Coolgreany Tidy Towns

The committee are appealing for as much support as possible to help clean-up the roads around the village as part of the 2km road clean-up, anyone who can help are asked to get involved with that work which started at the first day of April.

The committee would like to sincerely thank the St Patrick's Day parade organisers for their very kind donation which will help to purchase flowers for planting in the future to improve the village image for the Tidy Towns Competition.

School Enrolment

Coolgreany National School is now taking enrolment for September 2019. If you wish to enrol your child, please contact the school office for an Application Form at 0402 37246 or call into the office during school hours.


The club is appealing to the community for support for their weekly lotto which has changed slightly due to the closure of the local post office.

GAA club fundraisers

Cycle for our club takes place on Saturday, May 11. Registration at 6.30 a.m. to 7.15 a.m. cycle starts at 7.30 a.m. Junior cycle from the golden anchor at 1.30 p.m.

Monster raffle - This is a fundraiser for the cycle for our €2 each, or three for €5. Great prizes available.draw on Saturday the 11th may after the cycle. Coffee morning

Laura Byrne, a teacher in Monaseed National School is travelling to Uganda in July to work as a volunteer teacher with Nurture Africa. She is holding a coffee morning in Monaseed Hall on the rescheduled date of Sunday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help raise funds for the charity. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Community Childcare AGM

Craanford-Monaseed Community Childcare Services will hold its AGM on Tuesday, May 21, at 8 p.m. in Craanford Community Centre. All parents must attend AGM to register child for September 2019. All parents who attend AGM and who already have a child in Playschool will be given priority if MAX capacity is reached.

Lorraine Doyle, who is travelling to Uganda in June as a volunteer for Nurture Africa would like to sincerely thank all those who supported her recent cake sale and coffee morning fundraiser by either baking, donating raffle prizes, buying raffle tickets, donating or helping out on the day and also those who came along and supported this venture. All money raised go to Nurture Africa, who supports many educational programmes in Uganda.

Run with Ray

Why not Run or walk 5km with Ray on Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m., come on everyone, let's do it together, a giant effort on everyone's behalf will see a wonderful community event happen. Refreshments served afterwards with music and craic in Cooney's. Huge thanks to Raymond Byrne for all work with this event.

Break a Leg

We would like to say 'break a leg' to our own Brendan Doyle and the cast and crew of Kilrush Drama group in the all-Ireland Drama finals being held in Athlone this week.


The OsKaRs community fundraising initative will take place over the next few months culminating in a star studded event in late September when coveted awards will be handed out to those who shine on the big screen, why not get invovled, it promises to be a most entertaing event. On the screening night you can sit back and relax and bask in the spotlight without any nerves to worry about.


On April 26 the prize of €129 was won by Deirdre Byrne, a regular bingo patron. Congratulations, Deirdre. Thanks to Liz Byrne and James Doyle, who organised the draw. The co-ordinating team for Friday, May 10, is Team 1: Anne Curran and Eileen Lancaster.

Festival of choirs takes place from May 10 to May 12 in Gorey. Members of Craanford choir and Gorey choir will combine to perform on Sunday the 12th at 7 p.m. in St Michael's church along with other choirs on the evening. All events are in aid of County Wexford Hospice Homecare Service, donations are welcome on the door. Field day 2019.

An open meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 9 p.m. in the hall. This meeting is to discuss whether this year's field day will go ahead and if so what format. If you have any ideas on how the field day can be improved please come along. The field day has raised essential funds for the community over the past year's and it would be a big loss if it does not go ahead again this year.

Car boot sale

There will be a car boot sale at Christ Church old School on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. All support greatly appreciated.

GAA Notes

Not every week will be as successful as the week just gone. The 2nd adult footballers had a tough win over Volunteers 2-11 to 2-10. The U13 Hurlers overcame Monsgeer 2-11 to 2-1. The minor Camogie team hammered Bannow. But team of the week are the U14 girls footballers who won the Wexford feile , beating Adamstown in the semi and Clonee in the final ( 2-3 to nil).

This year's National Feile takes place in Connaught early June. The boys Hurlers played their refixed final v st James on Sunday the 5th. Sat 11th has the first Hurling team v Our Lady's isle in The Rock at 7pm. Sun 12th has the second team in Oylegate at 11am. The ladies team have a match in Kilanerin on Tue 7th at 7pm . The same time as the U12 girls play Shelmaliers on the lower pitch. The girls U16s have a match Wed 8th in Kilanerin at 7pm. Meanwhile, the U13 boys are in Gorey on Tue 7th and the U15 boys are in st Martins in Thurs 9th at 7.15pm. There is always great excitement and craic at club matches, so try and get there to watch. And as they say in Navan, "Leave you phones in your pocket ".

The Kellogg's Cul Camp for boys and girls 13 and younger takes place in Kilanerin from the 1-5th July. . Book directly online to Cul Camps Wexford. The club itself is hosting a second camp in Kilanerin from 29th July to the 2nd of August. Booking info for the second camp later.

There was no Jackpot winner in the Lotto draw. There were two match 3 winners who get €100 each. The numbers were 9,12,22,27. Next draw is in Noel's on tue 7th.

Tidy Towns

Kilanerin Tidy towns is now in full swing now that Spring is here. Clean up each Saturday morning. Meet at the Shamrock Hall parking area work for the time that suits your schedule. All tools, gloves and Hi-Vis vests provided, Come out one day or many all helpers all ages are very welcome. Planting, watering assistance with many maintenance projects also getting going.
