Around the districts: Clonegal-Kildavin, Marshalstown-Castledockrell and Rathnure

Clonegal-Kildavin - Athletic Club AGM: Ardattin Athletic Club's AGM will take place on Tuesday, April 16, at 8.30 p.m. in Ardattin Hall. All members invited to attend. A short meeting of Slaney Valley Community Games will take place immediately after.

Trolley Raffle

The parents' council and Clonegal NS would like to thank the volunteers that helped with the Trolley Raffle recently which raised €1,180. Congratulations to Nancy Brennan, who won €150. The remainder of the money will be used for playground game markings.

GAA lotto

There was no winner of the Kildavin-Clonegal GAA lotto held on Sunday, March 31. Numbers drawn were 08, 15, 16 and 20. There were no match-three winners. Winners of quick picks were, Emma and Frances Whelan, Clonegal, Noel Conway, Kildavin and Eugene Murphy, Kildavin, all receiving €50 each. Seller's prize goes to Osborne's Clonegal, receiving €50. The next draw will take place in Dunne's Lounge, Clonegal on Sunday, April 14, at 10.30 p.m., with a jackpot worth €8,600. Tickets €2 each.

Clonegal NS Parent Council

The parents' council are looking for volunteers to help on special occasions. Have you have some spare time and would like to volunteer, please any member of the parents' council or Clonegal NS for more information.

National Spring Clean

Clonegal Tidy Village Association is taking part in the National Spring Clean 2019. The Spring Clean in Clonegal will take place on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come along and take part in the clean-up. Meet at St Brigid's Hall at 11 a.m. Any help very much appreciated.

'The Monday Club'

Come and join us and brighten up your Monday mornings 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St Mary's Day Centre, Ryland Road, Bunclody. On Monday, April 15, 'Charity Work in Moldova' With Maureen Byrne. Monday, April 29, Dancing With Declan Flannigan. New members are welcome. This Club would suit 60+ age group. Entrance Fee, €4 includes tea and light lunch.

Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to midday: Autism Lego Workshop with Caroline Busher. Join reader in residence, Caroline Busher for a Lego 'Therapy Storytelling Workshop'. This workshop is for children (ages 6-12) with ASD and their families. It will focus on children's strengths.

Wednesday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. approx: Easter Story time. As we will be closed on Good Friday, please join us for stories, rhymes and songs. Suitable for pre-schoolers to five-year-olds.

Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m.: Easter Floral Demonstration with Betty Cumiskey. Betty Cumiskey, Wexford Flower and Garden Club returns to Bunclody Library for a wonderful Easter Floral demonstration. Betty has won many awards and will show us how to add and enhance our Easter floral displays. All displays will be raffled off at the end of the event.

Thursday, April 25, from, 7 p.m.: Patthana garden through the seasons gardening talk with TJ Maher. T.J Maher will take you on a visual journey as he guides you through the seasons at Patthana Garden. 'Situated in Kiltegan village, Patthana is one of the best small secret gardens in the country. It is the garden of an artist, the painter T.J Maher, and it shows.'. The 100 Best Gardens in Ireland by Shirley Lanigan.

Bring and Buy Sale

Bunclody Day Care Services Ltd is holding Bring and Buy Sale along with a coffee morning on Holy Thursday, April 18, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in St Mary's Day Centre, Ryland Road. Raffle and coffee morning, cake and home produce stall, crafts, knitting, crochet and jewellery, bags, belts and books. Home Baking and home produce accepted on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. Please drop in and support this worthwhile local cause.

Lourdes Invalid Draw

Thanks to all who supported the recent Lourdes Invalid Draw held in Castledockrell. Your support was greatly appreciated. The draw is in Ferrycarrig Hotel on Sunday, April 14.

Clothing Collection

Marshalstown Parents Committee's next clothing collection at Marshalstown NS will be on Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. All proceeds go to the school. No pillows, duvets or towels.

Castledockrell NS

We look forward to celebrating 'Friendship Week' within the school from Monday, eighth to Friday, April 12. With our multi-grade class groups all children in the school mix and play together. This week allows us to celebrate the importance of friendship.

First Holy Communion

First Holy Communions in the parish are on Saturday, May 4, in St Joseph's Church, Marshalstown and on Sunday, May 12, in the Church of All Saints, Castledockrell.


Sympathy is extended to the family of the Late Anne Jordan and the family of the Late Mary Nolan. May they rest in peace.


Next session of storytelling in Castledockrell Hall is on Wednesday, April 17 (due to Holy Thursday ceremonies on our usual day) at 8 p.m. Refreshments served. Raffle held on the night. Come along and bring a friend.

Mass Times

Weekend Masses in the parish are as follows Saturday in Marshalstown at 7.30 p.m. and Sunday in Castledockrell at 10 a.m. Please note also that baptisms in both Marshalstown and Castledockrell are on Saturdays only.

April Social

Our April Social in Marshalstown Community Centre takes place on Easter Sunday night, April 21, and will be run in aid of the Charity Hope. Music will be provided by Bernie Heaney and Boz. Doors open 9.30 p.m. Dancing starts at 10 p.m. Admission for this night only is €10 including tea. All profits go to Hope. Please note there will be no Friday night dance in April as our usual date is Good Friday.


Bingo continues every Thursday evening in Marshalstown Community Centre starting at 8.30 p.m. with three big jackpots to play for....


The annual patron and blessing of graves is in Marshalstown on Sunday, May 26, and in Castledockrell on Friday, July 5. More details nearer the dates.

Church Notices

Please Note: From the weekend of April 27/28 there will be one Mass celebrated in Templeudigan on Sundays at 9.30 a.m. To facilitate this new Mass time, Sunday Mass in Rathnure will move to 10.30 a.m.

Church Restoration: Tender documents are almost ready and hopefully work will begin in the not too distant future. Sincere thanks to all who have returned contributions and pledged offerings through bank standing orders. Boxes of Restorations Envelopes are available for people who wish to make a weekly/monthly offering.


The bingo jackpot on Tuesday, April 9, is €2,100.

Model County Tickets - These will be on sale shortly. €20 for one month or €50 for three draws. All proceeds for the first 80 tickets go to the County Board then Rathnure St Anne's retain €35 from every other €50 ticket sold. We look forward to your support.

Club Shop  - Open on Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Club lotto  - The numbers drawn last Tuesday the second were 3, 13, 15 and 28. No jackpot winner. There were three match-three winners who each won €67. Jackpot this week: €11,000.

Camogie Club news

We are having our annual Good Friday table quiz at 7.30 p.m. on April 19 in the John Kelly Memorial Hall. Tables of four, all ages welcome. Can anyone stop Michael Foley and Co. going for four in-a-row?
