Opening of Monaseed Playground

The official opening of Monaseed Playground, which serves the needs of the sister communities of Monaseed and Craanford and surrounding areas, took place on Saturday, June 22, at 3 p.m. Between both our parish schools we have almost 300 children enrolled.

This Monaseed playground builds connections between our schools and our children. It enhances sporting and community endeavour. It builds social skills in our children. It promotes health and affirms the importance of physical exercise in an age when sedentary lifestyles are becoming the norm.

For all these reasons it was a joy for Fr Richard to be invited to attend and with his colleague Fr Felix, to bless the new facility. We ask everyone to respect and care for this play area and encourage all families with young children to make good use of it.

Sincere thanks to the Committee Members: Larry Kinsella, Clare McGuinness, Don McGuinness, Cora Browne, Leonie Kinsella, James Beesley, Tim Walsh, Shanon O'Bracken, Niamh Doyle, Ailish Doyle, Caroline Doyle and Veronica Redmond and their supporters who organised the project and its launch. Thanks to the Leader Programme headed by Mary Dunphy for the grant assistance.

The total project cost approximately €48,000, of which the committee raised €12,000 and the leader grant was €36,000. Thanks to all our local public representatives for their presence and support on the day (TD James Browne, TD Michael Darcy, councillors Donal Kenny, Malcolm Byrne, Joe O'Sullivan, Anthony O'Donohoe).

Sincere thanks to Séamus O'Brien and Stephen Hayes our school principals and their staffs for all the support. Thanks to those who prepared the delightful refreshments which were served after the launch in the hall. Well done, everyone.
