Castletown : Coffee morning - All are welcome to a coffee morning on Wednesday, December 4, at the residence of Cathy Lee, 'Beannacht', Ahare, Castletown from 9.30am to late.

Liam Mellows Commemoration

The annual Liam Mellows Commemoration in Castletown takes place on Sunday, December 8, Commencing with Mass at 11 a.m. in St Patrick's Church, Castletown. Following on with the Colour Party leading on to the adjoining Cemetery.

The event is chaired by Lorcan Allen and prayers will be said by the parish priest while oration will be delivered by Senator Mark Daly. The event is followed by light refreshments in the Golden Anchor, Castletown.

Bearna Chle parents' association

Christmas Family Fun Day at St Patrick's National School, Bearna Chlé, Johnstown on Sunday, December 1, from 11 a.m. On the day we will have music, home baking, handmade crafts, wreaths, barbecue delights, tea or coffee and mince pies, nail art, games and lots more. Fantastic prizes for our Christmas raffle. Everyone welcome.

90th birthday party

On last Friday night November 15, all the members of the McDonald Family Knockgreany came together at the Taravie Hotel Courtown to celebrate the 90th birthday of their Mother Mrs Molly (Mary) McDonald Knockgreany, Coolgreany, the extended family included all her siblings, grand-children and great grand-children, and a large circle of her very close relations and friends. Molly was overwhelmed by such a large gathering and enjoyed a great night of chat and entertainment, and she definitely was a worthy recipient of all those good wishes, as Molly is a real Lady in the midst of our community and very much deserves the good wishes of everyone on her 90th birthday.

Vintage Presentation

On last Friday night, Coolgreany Vintage Club and the Gap Vintage Club joined forces at the Gap Pub to present a cheque for €3,000 to the Kinsella Family Ballythomas, which was the proceeds of a Joint Car and Tractor Run which was held around the roads of the Local Area on Sunday, October 27. This run was an outstanding success and raised €3,000 which was handed over to the Kinsella Family to help a member of that family, who is seriously ill, Dan Kennedy and Mick Darcy represented both clubs and the jointly said it was a privilege to be able to help a very worthy cause from the proceeds the Car/Tractor Run.

Golden Circle Social Group

There was no jackpot winner in the Ballygarrett Réalt na Mara GAA Club blotto draw on November 18. The numbers picked were 6, 13, 26 and 28. The €20 lucky-dip winners were Sue and Eva Casey; Caroline Masterson; Bernie Lawless; Vera Redmond; Kevin and Theresa Farrelly. Five Free Tickets Winner: Kevin McLoughlin. Next draw is on November 25 in Ambrose Maloneys, jackpot will be €5,900.

The Kilanerin ICA November meeting is on Monday, November 25, at 8 p.m. in the Shamrock Hall. Marian Kavanagh is doing a cooking demonstration always a good night all welcome. The competition on the night is your favorite teapot.

Pilates continues on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. €6 per class

GAA Notes

Team of the week, and maybe of the year, are the under-15 boys' football who won the Premier Wex Championship last week, beating Fethard in the final. This was to add to their earlier winning of the Hurling Trophy a week prior. Well done to players, parents and mentors.

There was no jackpot winner in the lotto draw on the 18th. There was one match-three winner who gets €200. The numbers were 5, 6, 13 and 28. The next draw takes place in Noel's on Monday the second. The jackpot is now €3,000. This time of year tends to be fundraising season and no different this year with both Tara Rock and Kilanerin active in trying to finish projects before year end. Please support as you can.

Well done to Kevin Geoghegan, who has been nominated for an award at the District Awards night on November 30. It celebrates individual contributions in an exemplary manner to the club. Kilanerin GAA are delighted to nominate Kevin for his hugh and unique contribution to the club on many levels and over several years. Tickets for the event can be booked by contacting Eleanor Hughes.

Ballyfad Hall

Ballyfad Hall Committee are holding a fundraising draw in aid of the Ballyfad Hall building fund. Thank you to all who sponsored the prizes which include €300 cash, Full Car Service value €250, Voucher for Home Heating Oil plus many more prizes. The draw will take place at a Variety Concert in the Shamrock Hall, Kilanerin on Friday, December 6. Tickets will be available from all committee members in the coming week. Tara Hill community development group will be hosting a Carol service and lighting of the outdoor Christmas tree at St Kevin's church on Sunday, December 8. Mulled wine and hot chocolate will be served on the night. More details to follow.

GAA news

Congratulations to the Castletown boys Rackard league football champions of 2019. (The three local schoos team up together for this league). Match played against adamstown, with a final score of Castletown 4-10, Adamstown 1-3. 14 of the panel attend Tara Hill school. Congratulations to all including their coaches Niall breen and Kevin Morris.

Castletown underage AGM will be held on Friday, November 29, in the clubhouse castletown.all welcome.

Chair yoga continues every Monday at 10.45 a.m. in the golden anchor.

Ladies' Club

Tara Hill ladies' club recently held their November meeting. Mary James from Alders jewellers gave a very interesting talk. Also raffled beautiful gifts, a very enjoyable night was had by all. Ciss and Celine on tea, lovely homemaking as usual. Best wishes to Serena on her recent operation.

Next meeting is on Monday the fourth dec at 8 p.m. Noleen from St Aidan's garden center, will give a demonstration on Christmas arrangements. Christmas night out is on Sunday, December 15, ashdown park hotel.
