Ballymurn: Tidy Towns - The village is looking very well at the moment. Fás are doing a great job keeping our village litter-free. Tidy town adjudicators will be checking out our village soon so we need to be vigilant and keep the village and approach roads looking good.

GAA club news

Baby and Toddler Group

The baby and Toddler Group gather every Tuesday in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. Social dancing

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, July 14. Music on the night is by the hugely popular Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission €8. Come along and enjoy a lovely evening of music and dance.

Monageer

Clothes collection

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA are running a Clothes Collection and would welcome all donations of unwanted clothes, paired shoes, hats, scarfs, handbags, bed linen (no duvets, or cushions please) curtains, towels etc. All donations can be left at the Old Complex - Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. every week.

Baptism

Congratulations to Gavin and Karla Leonard, Crane, whose son Charlie Redmond was baptised in our parish on June 22. We wish them all the very best for the future.

Wedding

Congratulations to Anna Murphy, Monageer (daughter of Willie and Eithne) who married Michael Heffernan, Kilcotty on June 7 in Monageer Church with Fr Cosgrave presiding. e wish them all the very best for the future.

Sympathy

We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Anne Folan, Monageer, wife of the late Peter, who died on June 4 aged 78. The funeral Mass was celebrated in Monageer and she was laid to rest with her husband Peter in our local (new) cemetery (extension).

Also to the family of Jim Mackey, Tobergal, Boolavogue (brother of Bob, Effernogue, who died on June 10 aged 68. The Mass and burial took place in Boolavogue.

Also to Patricia Wildes, Crane, whose mother Mary Carbury, Enniscorthy, who died on June 10 aged 94. The funeral Mass took place in Enniscorthy Cathedral and the burial was in St Mary's cemetery.

Also to Denis Kinsella, Tomsollagh, whose uncle Louis O'Toole, Ferns died on June 13 aged 82. The obsequies were in Ferns.

And also to the family of Marie (Ciss) Savage, Kilpierce Lane, who died on June 17 aged 77. The requiem Mass and burial took place in Marshalstown, her native place. RIP.

300-1 Draw results

The winner of Junes 300-1 draw were as follows: First {€150} Liam and Frieda O'Brien, Monageer; second {€40} Nick Stafford, Summerville, Tomsollagh; third (€30} Garrett Sinnott, Breen Agri. Service, Crane,; fourth (€20) John and Margaret Donohoe, Meaugh.

Annual Patron

This took place this year on Sunday, June 2, at 6 p.m. with Mass in our local (new) cemetery. A large congregation was present. The blessing of the graves followed the Mass. The collection at the gates was generous and we tjhank all who contributed so generously. The patron was followed by our local GAA Clubs Field Evening in the parish field behind our Parish Hall.

Church news

MASS TO RENEW MARRIAGE VOWS - This Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, July 14, at 10 a.m. It is hoped many married couples will take part and that one couple will lead the celebration as they renew their vows.

FAMILY MASS - This special Mass is planned for Sunday, 18th Auguat at 10 a.m. We hope many families will participate and make it a significant parish event.

MASS IN OUR LADY'S ISLAND - This year, as in recent years, we, the Monageer parishioners, our church choir and Fr Cosgrave will celebrate Mass in Our LADY'S ISLA ND Churhc on Monday, August 19, at 3 p.m. all are welcome.

Yarn Bomb 2019

Yarn Bombing is a type of street art that used knitted an crocheted yarn to cover objects in some public places. It is a fun way to brighten life up a bit. This has begun in our Grotto recently by our local group Monageer Knitwits and they were featured recently on RTÉ's Nationwide TV programme. Well done all.

Active Retired

The Oulart Active Retirement Association will hold its AGM on Tuesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. in Oulart Community Centre. All are welcome to attend and new members are especially welcome.

Thank You

Sheila Mythen, chief organiser of the recent coffee morning and bric-à-brac sale at the Oulart Hill Bar for the Autism Unit of St Senan's School, Enniscorthy is pleased to announce that €650 was raised and she wishes to thank everyone who helped in any way.

Deserving of special mention is Christine Smyth, who was an invaluable helper as was Joan Kavanagh, who is always ready to lend a hand. Thanks to everyone who attended, who bought raffle tickets, who sponsored prizes (many preferring to remain anonymous), to the mothers who sponsored prizes and did some home-baking, to Tony, Marie and Joan for the lovely items for the bric-à-brac sale, to Helen for the delicious home-baking, to Lar Corrigan, who sponsored the Meat Voucher for the raffle and to Gary and Conor for the use of Oulart Hill Bar.

The Door Prize was won by Betty Redmond. The winners of the raffle were: John Dempsey (Meat Voucher), Brooke and Darryl Kehoe, Rory Nangle, Pad Mythen, Una Kavanagh, Amanda Burke, Jay Mythen-Keane, Kayla James, Catherine O'Connor, Sarah Byrne, Sinéad Mythen, Joseph Masterson. Sheila's grandson Kai attends the Autism Unit in St Senan's School and she is full of praise for the brilliant Unit and the dedicated staff who work there.

Championship camogie

Oulart-The Ballagh senior camogie team were away to Rathnure in the first round of the championship, last Monday, June 24, and were victorious on a score-line of one goal 20 points to 10 points. They will play St Martin's in the second round, in Oulart on Monday, July 8. This promises to be a cracker and is not to be missed.

Split the Pot

The latest winner of Scoil Mochua's split-the-pot is Cillian McKenna who won €134.The school benefits to the same amount as the winners. The next draw will take place on July 1. Entry envelopes are available from the school and from local businesses. The parents' association say 'thank-you' to all who regularly play split-the-pot in support of the local primary school.

Split-the-pot Upfront

Scoil Mochua parents' association is now taking advance payments for playing split-the-pot When you pay in advance for 10 weeks you get one week free. Simply do the following to play Upfront - (1) Fill out the split-the-pot envelope as usual and put €20 in it.(2) Write Upfront on the envelope. (3) Put the envelope in any of the split-the-pot boxes in local businesses before 6 p.m. on Monday, June 24. You will then be covered to play in every draw till and including Monday, September 2.

Model County Draw

Oulart-The Ballagh had two winners in the June Draw. Congratulations to Darren and Adam Nolan, who won the 12th prize of a Midlands Park Hotel Holiday Voucher valued at €250 and to Michael and Geraldine Doyle who (HJ1) won the 21st prize of a Sam McCauley Chemist Voucher valued at €250.

Club lotto

The numbers drawn on June 24 were 7, 8, 27 and 28 the Bonus number was 10. The prize-fund stands at €13,200. There was no jackpot winner. The lucky-dip winners of €30 each were Tom Boland, Edel and Dan Nolan, Jim Doran, Garry Phillips and Mary Graham. The next draw will be held on July 1. Tickets are available from local promoters and from local businesses. Book of six for €10. Book of 12 for €20.

Joan and Friends Fun Run

Joan Kavanagh and friends are organising a Charity Fun Run/Walk/Jog to be held on Sunday, July 14, at 4 p.m. in Oulart. It will start outside Oulart Hill Bar and the entry fee is €10 for adults and €2 for children. Proceeds will go towards the Cardiac Unit Wexford Hospital.
