Silver Circle Bonanza Draw

A great night was had by all in Ferrycarrig hotel last Friday night for the Silver Circle Bonanza draw, it was a great community get together and it was great to see people of all ages there, well done to the organising committee. The lucky winners were: €5,000 Harry Kehoe, Crossabeg. €3,000 Brian Foley, Crossabeg. €1,000 Denis and Anne Kehoe, Ballymurn. €1,000 Jerry and Bridget Bernard, Crossabeg. €200 winners were Annemarie O'Connor, Ballymurn, Owen Gordon, Ballymurn, Mary Fox, Crossabeg, Derek Broaders and Jane Renehan, Crossabeg and Christoph Duntsch, Crossabeg. Congratulations to all winners.

We would like to thank everyone for their support for this very successful fundraiser and we plan to roll it out again in Spring 2020.

Boolavogue

Alzheimers Awareness

Dr Eithne Hartigan from Wexford General Hospital, among others, will be giving a talk on Alzheimers in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, on Monday, November 4. This information session will start at 7 p.m. and will run till 9 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend.

Hope Centre

The Hope Cancer Support Centre would like to invite all those who have been touched by cancer or any other illnesses or loss, to join them at their annual 'Candle of Hope' Service on Friday, November 1, in St Aidan's Cathedral Enniscorthy at 8 p.m. If you are unable to attend you can still join the prayers by lighting your own candle and listening to South East Radio as the service will broadcast live on air.

GAA News

Hard luck to the under-13 footballers who contested the Division 4 football shield in St Patrick's Park on Thursday last, October 24. After a thrilling game, they found themselves five points behind the eventual winners, Marshalstown on a scoreline of 2-5 to 2-10.

The under-15 hurlers, contesting the Roinn one, shield final on Sunday the 20th., lost out to a skilled and talented Duffry Rovers team after a cracking game. They had beaten a fancied St James' side to reach this final.

Ministers of the Word/Eucharist

On Saturday, November 2, at the 8 p.m. Vigil Mass, Catherine Whelan is due to read with Cormac O'Loughlin helping distribute Communion. Mary Gilbride is the reader at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, November 3, and Lorraine Dempsey is on duty as Minister for the Eucharist.

Parent and Toddler Group

The parent and toddler group had great fun on Wednesday last, October 23, when all the children dressed up in preparation for Hallowe'en. This week they will all be taking a rest for the mid-term break and the group will meet up again on Wednesday, November 6, at the usual time.

Ferns

GAA Lotto draw

Bowling Club

Ferns Bowling Club have bought 16 new jerseys at €15 each costing €240 in total. They are in red and white, the Ferns colours. The club is also purchasing a new mat, bowls and a jack costing €1,400.

Ferns Bowling Club would like to thank Pat Nolan (chairman), John Francis (treasurer) and Ray Fick (secretary) for all their work in all the above ventures.

Clonee Ladies' Football

Mark the Date: Clonee Ladies' Football Strictly Club Dancing takes place on November 15 in the Amber Springs.

Upcoming fundraisers; table quiz in Parkside on November 18 at 8.30. Tractor Run on Sunday the 20th, leaving Clonee GAA grounds at 11. The Crab Lane Pub Poker night on November 25.

Parish Variety Concert

The Ferns Parish Variety Concert 2019 will be held on November 6, in St Aidan's Church, Ferns. Featuring Olivia Douglas, Dave Lawlor and Theresa and the Stars. Admission €10 with door prize on the night. Tickets now available from the parish office and door to door in the coming weeks. All proceeds in aid of Ferns Parochial Funds.

House of Stories

Great War Commemoration

There will be a Great War Commemoration this Sunday, November 3, at 3 p.m. in Woodenbridge, Co Wicklow. Principal speaker her excellence the ambassador of Germany to Ireland Ms Deike Potzel followed by wreath laying. Opening address by the CEO of Wicklow County Council Mr Frank Curran. Baby and Toddler Group

Please note there will be no baby and Toddler Group gathering Tuesday, October 29, as schools are on mid-term break. Group resumes as normal Tuesday, November 5, in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. First Responders

A Hands for Life Course is coming to the parish very soon. Knowing CPR can save a loved one's life. The more people attend this course the better for everyone - Cardiac arrest can happen anyone anywhere and knowing the simple skill of CPR allows you to do your bit to help save a life. Spread the word and watch out Facebook page closely for upcomming course dates.

Monageer Grotto

Thanks to donations received over the summer, we've been able to plant almost 1,800 spring flowering bulbs which will add an extra flourish of colour at Monageer Grotto in the coming months. Your donations are much appreciated and are used to continually add new flowers, plants, and seasonal decor.We're currently working on the Halloween decor and we'll have news shortly about this year's Halloween event.

Volunteers have been busy decorating the Sensory Path for the Spooky Season. Don't forget our Halloween Storytime this Sunday at 5 p.m. when there'll be even more spooky things to see.

GAA News

Hard luck to our under-13 footballers who lost out to Marshalstown on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-5. We didn't get going in the first half, improved in the second half but it wasn't to be. Well done to Marshalstown-Castledockrell. The Lads have worked well this year and have enjoyed some good successes along the way. Lots of potential to be unlocked. Thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the year and huge thanks to all players for their commitment in 2019. Roll on next year!

Pop Up Gaeltacht

The next Pop Up Gaeltacht will be in Mernagh's lounge on Friday, November 1, starting at 9.30 p.m. The idea is for people to meet informally in a relaxed atmosphere and to use whatever bit of Gaeilge they have. Oylegate Craft Fair 2019

The annual Craft Fair will be held in Oylegate Community Centre on Sunday, November 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables €20 each. Exhibitors from Oylegate and Glenbrien parish will be given first preference.

A certain number of tables will be assigned for TY students Mini-Companies and again first preference will be given to students from Oylegate and Glenbrien, who should book before November 8. To book a table please phone 087 6617527.

Walking Track

The lights will be on at the walking track at the GAA Grounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the facility is available to all in the community, so come along and stay fit over the winter months. The couch to 5k group meet Wednesday evenings. All welcome to take part.

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the local Tidy Towns, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Retired Nurses Association

The Wexford Branch of the Retired Nurses Association are hosting a Mass for deceased members of Wexford Health Services in Oylegate Community Centre on Wednesday, November 6, at 7.30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Wexford Hurling Bingo

Wexford Senior hurling stars and the Bob O'Keeffe Leinster Cup will attend bingo in Oulart Community Centre on Sunday, November 3, beginning at 8 p.m. A raffle will be held on the night for a variety of prizes which include a signed Wexford Jersey and a DVD of the Road to Leinster Champions.

Craft Fair
