Askamore - Sincere sympathy: We extend our sincere sympathy to Dermot Doran, Kilrush on the sad passing of his wife Bernie (née Fitzpatrick). We also send our sympathies to Margo Doran, Knocknamota, Bernie's sister, and to Bernie's, son, daughters, mother, sisters, brother and extended family.

First Aid Course

A first aid course will be held in Askamore Activity Centre on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 p.m. - eighth - January 15 and 22 2019. Places are still available. This very popular course comprises of a section specifically designed for farmers and teaches participants a wide variety of life saving actions they can take should a family member, neighbour or friend be involved in an accident or suffer a medical emergency. Community Council Officers

Following a Community Council meeting, the new officers for the coming year have been elected. Chair. : Helen Kearny. Vice-chairperson: Brian Buttle.

Secretary: Pádraig O'Connor. Assistant-secretary: Margaret Nolan. Joint treasurers: Paddy Byrne and Ger Blackbyrne. The incoming officers would like to thank Paddy Byrne, Brian Buttle and Davy Donohoe for the Trojan work they have carried out during their terms of office.

Community Centre

Visitors from far and wide who attended the recent Art Exhibition expressed the opinion our Community Centre is one of the finest in the county. Ongoing works and improvements makes it a very attractive venue for all events: weddings - birthday parties, meetings etc. Anyone wishing to avail of facilities at Askamore Community Centre, please phone Ger Blackbyrne 085 8838261 who is now taking bookings.


Some new additions are planned for Cairde App. We hope in the near future to send you the Askamore Notes every Monday morning so you can keep in touch with all that is happening in your area. Finches Fitness

Pilates classes in Askamore at 8.45 a.m. every Wednesday followed by fitness classes at 10 a.m. and Fit for Anything group 11.15-12.15. Contact Declan at 086 8468165.

Rural Transport

The local link bus leaves Askamore Church car park at 9.30 a.m. every Tuesday morning and 9.45 on Saturday mornings. This is a vital link to Gorey for many people and we would encourage people to use the service as often as possible. Phone Willie - 087 2449167 - for more info.

Kilrush-Askamore GAA

We're currently in the process of trying to fill our quota of 250 people paying into a Direct Debit Scheme of €15/month over five years, in order to procure badly needed new land. This is a once in a generation investment, and we really need everyone on board. This is a good time of the year to say a huge Thank You to our Parish Team, who help behind the scenes all year. Thank you to our priests, sacristans, teachers, special ministers, readers, collectors, cleaners, choir, pastoral council, finance committee, ground workers and all our volunteers, who help when called upon to lend a hand. We wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Vintage Club

The AGM of Coolgreany Vintage Club took place in the Coolgreany Inn on last Wednesday night where a large crowd attended, The chairman welcomed everyone, and then it was down to business with a very good report from secretary Geraldine O'Rafferty, followed by a very elaborate treasurers report from Alan Flood, which outlined the payments of €4,000 to North Wexford Hospice and also €2,000 to Coolgreany Tidy Towns. The chairman then reported on the start up of the Vintage Club and the successful Vintage Day and also the Car Run.

The following officers were the elected for the coming year 2019: chairman Dan Kennedy, Vice-chairman Seán Kealy, secretary Geraldine O'Rafferty, Assist secretary Sharon Flood, treasurer Alan this stage the chairman closed the meeting by thanking all their sponsors in the past year, and everyone who help out in any way.

45 Card Drive

Please note there won't be any Card Game on Friday, December 28, and will resume again on Friday, January 4, 2019. A very successful 45 Card Drive is ongoing in the Coolgreany Inn on each Friday night at 8.30 p.m., everyone is very welcome to come along for a good night of craic at the cards, and some lovely finger food thrown in for good measure.

Coolgreany Tidy Towns

The group would like to extend Christmas greetings to everyone who helped the group in any way over the past year and we look forward. that same support and good will in 2019.

A plea for old photos

Old Kilnenor Historical Society is pleased to announce the publishing of a book titled 'NOTICE TO QUIT,' an in-depth study of the Plan of Campaign evictions on the Coolgreany Estate. Attention is now focusing on the hunt for photographs of the evicted families, homesteads, Brooke estate rent receipts, 'Notice to Quit' notices to tenants., livestock distrain permits, summons to court appearances, jail term details, photos of medals of bravery - in fact anything that may add a small piece towards the jigsaw of the Coolgreany evictions.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE? A 'Drop-in and Scan workshop' will take place in the May Byrne Trust House, Coolgreany on Sunday, December 30, beginning at 2 p.m. and will continue to 4.30 p.m. If you have any photographs/documents of interest and would like to make available for inclusion in the book, then please drop for a chat. All photographs will be treated with respect and returned immediately after scanning. Alternatively, you may forward your.

Finch's Fitness

Finch's Fitness classes continue on Craanford Sports Complex Mondays and Fridays at 9.15 a.m. Pilates from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.


On Friday, December 14, the prize of €164 was won by Betty Cunningham, Tomsallagh and the Christmas hamper was won by Lisa Lynch, Gorey, both bingo regulars. Congratulations Betty and Lisa. The coordinating team for Friday, December 28, is Team 6: Anne Marie O'Sullivan.

Christmas and New Year Mass Schedule - Christmas Eve Monday, December 24: 6 p.m. Vigil Mass with Craanford Parish Choir (Craanford) and 7.30 p.m. Vigil Mass (Monaseed) (please note earlier time in Craanford)

Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25: 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. Mass (Monaseed) and 10.30 a.m. Mass (Craanford) music provided by the Bass family.

Parish office: For the week after Christmas Craanford parish office will open only on Friday, December 28, from 9 a.m. to midday.

Adoration: will take place in Craanford Church on Monday, January 31, from 9.45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Year's Day, Tuesday, January 1 (Public Holiday): Mass in Craanford at 9.15 a.m. and Monaseed at 9.30 a.m.

Feast of the Epiphany: this year is observed on Sunday, January 6. There will be the usual weekend Masses.

Christmas Mass Bouquet cards: Now available via the parish office in Craanford Community Centre (Wed and Thursday 9 a.m. to midday) and from Doyle's LONDIS, Gorey Road Cost is €5 (including card) while stocks last.

Vintage car/tractor run

The Gap Vintage club are holding a vintage car and tractor run on Sunday, December 30, from the Gap Pub, Ballythomas, in aid of St Aidan's Day Centre, Gorey, registration is from 11.30 a.m., all are welcome to come along.



Whist will take place on Sunday, December 30, in Kilanerin Hall at 2.30 p.m. All money raised will go towards buying a Defibrillator for Ballyfad. For further details please contact Marie at 087 2223230.
