Askamore: Climate Action Plan - The Climate Action Plan Ireland 2019 calls on all of us to play a part in protecting and improving our environment.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Application for these alarms is closing soon. To avail of an alarm you can download an application form their website muintir.ie. Forms are also available in Askamore CC Ph. 087 7795922 Monday to Thursday mornings for more information.

Le Chéile Park

We would love to welcome new members to get involved in the vegetable and fruit planting in the park this spring so if you would like to come along, please do. No knowledge of gardening needed. Ph. Jackie 086 2329865.

Rural Transport/Climate Action

The new Climate Action plan encourages people to leave their cars at home and use public transport. Local Link accepts Free Travel Pass or €3 each way/Gorey.

Arrangements can be made to collect people from their own door or at designated points along the route. The bus driver is happy to drop everyone home and help carry their shopping to their front door. Bus leaves Askamore Church car park Monday at 9.30 a.m. approximately arriving in Gorey 10 a.m. Bus departs Gorey at12.30 p.m., departs Thursday at 9.45 a.m. Plenty of time to shop, meet friends and have a coffee. Hollywood comes to Askamore

Keep a close eye on the Askamore Hollywood Events Calendar as it is being added to on a regular basis. Some of the great evenings planned include; Bingo, Rings Tournament etc. You can find the calendar on askamorecommunity.wordpress.com. The 'Oscars' awards will be held in the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey on Saturday, October 26.

Finches Fitness

Kilrush-Askamore GAA lotto

There was no winner of the latest lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 11, 20, 29 and 32. Ena Kearney, Larry and Ann Marie Butler, Jackie Tighe and Kristian Ruth won the Lucky Dips, and John Byrne won the Sellers' Prize. The next draw is in Peter Doyle's, Ferns, on Tuesday, July 9, where the jackpot will be up to €5,700.

Ballamon Bull Fest III 

The third Ballamon Bull Fest barn dance with full bar, grill and live music will be held in Harry and Amanda Murphy's yard (Eircode: Y21 XR62) on Saturday, July 6, The GAA club's charity partners this year are the parish and the two national schools. €10 tickets are widely available; don't miss what is sure to be another outstanding night.

Carnew NS split-the-pot

The lucky winner of €200 in our split-the-pot draw was Ross Collins.

Carnew Musical Society

Children's Creative Writing Workshops

The Lennon Centre, Annagh are running children's creative writing workshops in July for children aged 11 to 16 years. Dates as follows: Saturday and Sunday, July 21/22 for age 11-13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day; Saturday and Sunday, July 28/29 for age 14-16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Boolavogue

Clerical Changes

Fr Gahan will say goodbye to Boolavogue for a while at the end of July as he will be travelling to South Bend, Indiana in the USA to take up clerical duties there. He is going to be replaced by Fr Morgan White, who hails from Waterford originally and who is returning to Ireland after a spell in Tyler, Texas. Everyone sends sincere best wishes to Fr Gahan, who has done tremendous work in Boolavogue over the past few years.

Tidy Village Group

The 'Tidy Village Group' have been extremely busy lately constructing and installing a seat and two beautiful planters into the ditch between the Master's plot and St Cormac's church. They also have installed other seats around Boolavogue and planted and maintained delightful floral displays on the approaches to the village.

Soccer Camp

St Cormac's will be once again hosting an soccer camp this year. From the eighth. to July 12, the 'Sports Direct summer Soccer School', which caters for children from six to 14 years of age, will be held in Luke Foran Park. The cost is only €70 and for this, the child will get an exclusive 'Sports Direct' kit, a football, a certificate and five days of coaching. The camp can be booked online and for further details, please contact John Farrington the club secretary and treasurer.

Soccer Result

The soccer club's under-13s were away to Rathnure in their recent game and despite starting briskly, found themselves a goal down early in play. The hosts added a second goal and even though Bobby Codd scored a brilliant goal for St Cormac's, they went into the break 1-3 down. Rathnure went even further ahead in the second half, despite a great team effort from our lads.

Congratulations

Romance has been in the air in Boolavogue NS for the past while and the parents' association was delighted to make a presentation of a wedding gift to Ms Mullery on the Monday, June 24. The association had already made presentations to Miss Doyle and Miss Richardson to mark their upcoming nuptials.

Ministers of the Word

Éinín Rossiter is due to read at the Vigil Mass on Saturday, July 6, at 8 p.m. with Geraldine Doyle helping distribute Holy Communion. At the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, James Breen is reading while Catherine Gahan is the Minister for the Eucharist.

GAA lotto

The Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto jackpot still survives and has been increased to €6,800 for the next draw. This will be held on Tuesday next, July 9, at 9.30 p.m. in the clubhouse in Monageer. The numbers draw in the most recent draw were 2, 7, 8 and 22 and even though no one had all four, Rosemary O'Loughlin, Mary Foley and Stephen Murphy had three of the number each, and shared the €160 match-three prize. Tickets can be had from all club members and even bought online nowadays.

Clothes Collection

With the schools now closed for the summer holidays, you may find that you have some spare clothes to recycle. If you have, the GAA would be delighted to help. Clothes for recycling can be left in the GAA grounds in Monageer during office hours and the money raised will be used to help in the running of the underage section of the club.

Carnew

Agricultural Show

Carnew and district agricultral show will be held on Saturday, July 20, in Umrigar. For a full schedule of events phone 087 1429325 or email carnewagrishow@gmail.com. There will be classes for ridden hunter in hand and working hunter horses pony classes, sheep, poultry, baking, crafts and flowers, and a junior section dog show. A great day out for all the family.

GAA Lotto

Carnew GAA lotto was not won, numbers were 4, 21, 25 and 27. Lucky dips were Niamh Collins, Tombreane. Bird Greene, Soldier's Bench. John Collins, Kilcavan. Bernie Dunne, c/o Marion Kinsella. The next draw is July 8 in Kenny's and the jackpot is €2,800. Thanks to everyone for their support.

Rings Tournament

A rings tournament will be held on Friday, July 5, in Kenny's at 9 p.m., there will be a raffle and door prize, admission is €5 and all proceeds are towards Carnew Community Care, all support greatly appreciated.

Tea/coffee Day

There will be a tea or coffee day on Friday, July 5, in Roches All Care Pharmacy's from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in aid of friends of local people with Multiple Sclerosis North Wexford/South Wicklow Branch, all support would be greatly appreciated.

Tinahely Walking Club

The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely walking club. July 7: Lough Dan. Level A, 16km, five hours. Meet Tinahely 9.45 a.m. or Laragh 10.30 a.m. July 14: Camaderry and Turlough Hill. Level A, 18km, six hours. Meet Tinahely 9.15 a.m. or Glendalough upper car park 10 a.m.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food and drink. Please check Tinahely Walking Club Facebook page for any changes to the scheduled walks.

Summer Camp

Come join an exciting summer camp at Carnew National School from July 29 to August 2. For age group: 4-12. Times: 9.30 a.m. to midday (Art Camp) midday to 1 p.m. (Activity Camp).

Art in the morning (Tile Painting, Clay Houses, Drawing, puppets and much more) Activity camp in the afternoon (Introduction to Tae-Kwon-Do, circuit training and lots more).

Parks Tennis summer camps

Parks Tennis summer camps will run at Ferns GAA grounds from July 1 to July 26, Monday to Friday, for one and half hours at 9.30 a.m. for six to nine years and two hours at 11 a.m. for 10 to 16 years. Registration in Ferns GAA grounds each Monday morning in July.

St John's Ambulance Exhibition

Ferns Castle is hosting a fascinating exhibition about St John's Ambulance in Ireland during the First World War. This free event, which marks the influence of a vital organisation in the decade of centenary, can be viewed daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Ferns Castle Exhibition Centre. Free guided tours of the castle are also available with fantastic views of the Ferns area.
