Askamore: Hollywood comes to Askamore - The June calendar of events, organised by some of the groups taking part in ''Hollywood comes to Askamore'' is looking exciting.

To date we have table quiz on Friday the 14th, Tractor run on Sunday the 16th and 'Mrs Doyle's tea party' on Sunday the 30th. Please support these events and keep an eye on the calendar for other events which are being added regularly. You can find the calendar on askamorecommunity.wordpress.com. The 'Oscars' awards will be held in the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey on Saturday, October 26.

Ballyellis NS split-the-pot

Friday, June 7, winner of split-the-pot is Thomas and Kate Doran, Burrow, Ballyellis - winning €120. We thank everyone for supporting split-the-pot. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any parent and from Ashling Walsh after weekend Mass in Askamore Church. Draws will take place every Friday morning in Ballyellis School.

Table quiz

The first event is being organised by the Waking Ned film cast and will be held in Askamore Community Centre on Friday night next, June 14 at 9 p.m. The questions for the quiz will be set by Waking Ned Cast member Davy Donohoe. Teams of four will cost €40 (€10 per head). Please do come along to enjoy this fun night out. It will also give people a chance to see how the works are progressing in the community centre.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms.

Muintir na Tíre will provide Carbon Monoxide alarms to the following - Older person - Person with Disability - Unemployed. To avail of an alarm you can download an application form their website muintir.ie. Forms are also available in Askamore CC Ph. 087 7795922 Monday to Thursday mornings for more info.

Change to Rural Transport days

The local Link service to Gorey is now running on Thursdays and Mondays. The starting times and pick up places remain the same. Phone Willie at 087 2449167 for details.

Askamore Journal five

Askamore Journal five is currently being compiled using photographs from any early date up to and including the year 2000. Weddings, family/other occasions, school, portraits, machinery, etc, etc... anything and everything goes. Contact Davy Donohoe at 086 0820146 for further details.

Finches Fitness

GAA lotto

The latest lotto jackpot wasn't won, the numbers drawn were 8, 19, 29 and 32. Michael Murphy, Jackie Tighe, Ciara Murphy and the MacSweeney Family won the Lucky Dips. Paul Doran won the Sellers' Prize.

The next draw is in the Thatch, Ferns, tonight, Tuesday, June 11, where the jackpot will be up to €5,100.

Boolavogue

School Uniforms

Parents of pupils in Boolavogue NS can again order their children's school uniforms through the school's parents' association. They will have sample uniforms to try on in the hall this Wednesday, June 12, at 2 p.m., when the infants go home, and again at 3 p.m. when all the other pupils finish school. In case you can't be there at these times, they will also be in the hall at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Ministers of the Word

Catherine Doran is due to read at the Vigil Mass on Saturday, June 15, at 8 p.m. with Ann Whelan helping distribute Holy Communion. At the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, Mary B Gilbride is reading while Gay Gahan is the Minister for the Eucharist.

Patron Sunday

The date for the annual patron is fast approaching and it will be held on Sunday, June 30, at 3 p.m. this year. Mass celebrated in graveyard, weather permitting and this will be followed by the annual field day in aid of parish funds.

Meet Tinahely 9.45 a.m. or Turlough Hill car park 10.45 a.m. As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food and drink.

Ferns

Silver Jubilee of Ordination

Fr Richard Redmond celebrates his Silver Jubilee of Ordination on June 22. Bishop Denis Brennan will join us to concelebrate this Jubilee Mass in the Parish Church in Ferns at 7 p.m., followed by a reception in the Courtyard, Ferns. Fr Richard would be delighted if you and your family could join him on this happy occasion.

Field Day

The Ferns Parish field day will be held after Ferns Patron on Sunday, June 23. All of the usual attractions on the day. Members of Ferns parish council currently have tickets available for the parish draw. Draw will take place at the field day. Thanks to all for their support.

Tombrack School

The annual 6k timed fun run and 3k walk will take place in Tombrack on Sunday, June 16, at 11 a.m. Registration in Tombrack NS from 9 a.m. Prizes for first, second and third man and woman, also fastest parent and child. Refreshments and fun in the school afterwards.

The junior room had a fun day in Wells house and Fr Murphy Centre on their school tour on Friday, May 31. The senior room had a splashing time in Clara Lara on their school tour on Friday, June 7.

All new parents and children for the coming school year 2019-20 are invited to attend an information evening in the school on Thursday, June 13, at 7.30 p.m.

Active Retirement

The monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m. in the School Gym. Our guest speaker is Ms Mary O'Brien.

Names will be taken for next day trip, on June 18, which will include visiting the Dunbrody Ship, Ross Tapestry and Kennedy Homested at Dunganstown.

Parks Tennis Camps

Parks tennis summer camps, serving up for a summer of fun, will take place at Ferns GAA grounds from July 1 to July 26 inclusive, Monday to Friday, for one and half hours at 9.30 a.m. for 6-9 years and two hours at 11 a.m. for 10-16 years. Registration in Ferns GAA grounds on Friday, June 28, from 12.30-1.30 or each Monday morning in July.

Running Club

Do you want to start running or are you looking for a friendly club to join? Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC are looking for new members to join their club.

To help to do so we are running a summer league of 5k races starting Wednesday, June 19, at 7.30 p.m. for five Wednesday nights. This is suitable for all levels of running. The locations are Gorey, Bunclody, Ferns, Camolin and Old Bawn Beach.
