Askamore - Camogie Club of the Year: Kilrush camogie club has been selected as Wexford camogie club of the year. Heartiest congratulations and well done to all players, members and parents for all their commitment to the club throughout the year.


Friday, November 23, winner of split-the-pot is Paula Buttle, Donishall - winning €165. We thank everyone for supporting split-the-pot. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any parent and from Ashling Walsh after weekend Masses in Askamore Church. Draws will take place every Friday morning in Ballyellis School.

Vintage Club AGM

Askamore Vintage Club AGM will be held on Tuesday, November 27, at 8.30 p.m. New members are very welcome. Contact Donal at 087 6848004.

Art Exhibition

The Art Exhibition held in Askamore Community Centre last weekend was a fantastic success. All, who came to the exhibition were very impressed by the fantastic display of works by our local artists. You can see a full report and pictures taken on the opening night by Ger Lacey, in next week's Gorey Guardian.


The new cairdeapp system is now in use by Askamore Community Text/Event Alert group. You can still join and keep informed of what is happening in your area. New members are welcome. If you have not already done so, you can now download the app. New members must first register with Askamore Community Text Alert. Finches Fitness

Pilates classes continue in Askamore at 8.45 a.m. every Wednesday followed by fitness classes at 10 a.m. and Fit for Anything group 11.15-12.15. Contact Declan at 086 8468165.

Rural Transport

The local link bus leaves Askamore Church car park at 9.30 a.m. every Tuesday morning and 9.45 on Saturday mornings. This is a vital link to Gorey for many people and we would encourage people to use the service as often as possible. Phone Willie - 087 2449167 - for more information.

GAA lotto winner

Carnew Musical Society

St Brigid's Hall had full houses last week Carnew Musical Society's production of My Fair Lady which received rapturous applause and standing ovations each night. The society were overwhelmed by the overall reaction to the show and by the many complimentary reviews for all aspects of the show. Congratulations to everyone involved in this stunning production.

Kilrush Drama Group

Carnew audiences will not have too long to wait to see more drama as Kilrush Drama Group will present their annual festival play in St Brigid's Hall on February 15 and 17,2019. Watch this space for further details.


Christmas Lights

Our annual Christmas party and switch on of our Christmas lights is planned for Tuesday evening, December 11, when we'll all be hoping to get a glimpse of Santa, enjoy local music and other festive events. Women's Refuge Fundraiser

As this week sees the start of a 16-day awareness campaign by Wexford Women's refuge, Monday Patchwork Quilters; a Gorey based group that includes members from Ballyduff, have made a Reversible Patchwork Throw which they will raffle on December 17 in aid of Wexford Women's Refuge (An Garda Síochána permit granted).

Ladies' Club

The ladies' club meet on the second Wednesday of every month. Meeting in Clonee GAA Complex from 8 p.m. each month they try new things, listen to someone speaking about items of interest or giving demonstrations, try an activity, make something new, go on outings or just come along for refreshments and a chat. New members are most welcome.

Ballyoughter Christmas Concert

The Ballyoughter Christmas Concert is on December 14 in Sacred Heart Church Ballyoughter. It promises to be a greats nights entertainment with the renowned Island of Ireland peace choir directed by Dr Phil Brennan, Local Sopranos Caroline Doyle and Laura Carroll. Gorey Ukes and the Ballyoughter School Choir. Tickets can be purchased from the school or on the door on the night Adults €10 and Children €5. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the School. All support greatly appreciated.

Ballyoughter Remembrance Tree

Ballyoughter parents' association Presents: our Remembrance Tree. Purchase a bauble to remember your loved ones this Christmas, baubles will be placed on the tree in Sacred Heart Church Ballyoughter. A special Remembrance Mass will be held in Ballyoughter on December 23 at 9.45 a.m. Refreshments served in the school afterwards. Baubles are available to purchase from Ballyoughter school, local businesses or by contacting 087 6345789. Cost of baubles is €2 each or three for €5. Your support is greatly appreciated and all proceeds go directly towards building an outdoor shelter for the school kids.


Split the pot

The winner of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew split-the-pot of November 23 was Tara, Laoise and Aoibhne Doran winning €248, tickets on sale from the school or local shops.


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Shem Moore, Tombreane, who died last week, his remains were removed to Carnew on Sunday morning for 11 a.m. Mass, followed by burial in Carnew grave yard. To the family and relatives of Mary Kate Sheils, Garryhasten, who died during the week and was buried on Thursday in Clonegal cemetery. To the family and relatives of Bridie Kinsella, Balllyfad, who died during the week.

Coolboy handball club

Congratulations to Coolboy handball club on winning their first ever all-Ireland senior club championship beating Kerry's Glenbeigh, players are Jerome Willoughby, Michael Gregan. Michael Lennon. Johnny Willoughby and Keith Kavanagh. Well done to all involved.

Baby knitting/crochet

The collection of blankets and baby knit wear for Crumlin hospital will take place on Monday, December 17, at 3 p.m. in Carnew Community Care. A nurse from the hospital will attend. All, who have contributed in any way are very welcome to come along. Looking forward to seeing you there.


The next bingo is on Sunday, December 16, at 2.30 p.m. in St Bridget's Hall, Carnew, all welcome.

Urgent meeting Carnew Christmas lights

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 5, at 8 p.m. in Carnew Training and Development Centre. Pride in Carnew have amalgamated with Carnew Christmas lights committee and a meeting has been organised to discuss the Christmas lights for Carnew.

As you will all know from last year, the lights are scarce around the town and the volunteers are even scarcer. If you want Carnew looking good for Christmas this year, it is essential that you attend this meeting so we can sort something out before it is too late. Please, we are depending on you to have some Pride in Carnew. Hope to see you there.
