With business taking a turn as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, one Wexford publican has decided to diversify in the face of adversity and is hoping to be able to assist other Wexford businesses in re-opening their doors as the restrictions are lifted.
The pub trade is one that's engrained in the Kelly family, a name synonymous with business in the town since 1936. The family operate Billy Kelly's Pub in the Faythe and Kelly's on the Corner on King Street in Wexford town. And, like every other publican, when the Covid crisis hit, Thomas Kelly was forced to shut up shop and was left with some time on his hands to think.
This time bore fruit in the shape of a brand-new company - Sanwex Clean Co.
'I started to look at what extra precautions would be required to re-open my business and keep staff and customers safe,' Thomas explains.
'This led me to do a lot of research on products and prices. I managed to source high-quality sanitiser and PPE at excellent rates and after realising that pubs would be one of the last businesses to return to trading, I decided it would be an excellent opportunity to pass on this knowledge to fellow businesspeople in Wexford and surrounding areas.'
The newly founded company stocks all manner of hand sanitisers and PPE and Thomas is hopeful that his newest venture might just help some of his fellow business owners when it comes to re-opening their doors.
