The local food economy has received a major boost with news that three members of the Wexford Food Family have been accepted for the Grow with Aldi programme.
Fancy Fungi Gourmet Mushrooms, Jimmy's Kitchen and Naturally Cordial will now avail of the programme designed to help small and medium producers develop their brand, with the chance to become a core range listing in all of Aldi's 142 Irish stores.
Fancy Fungi is run by Nikk and Catherine George and operates out of Killinick. Its Grey Oyster Mushrooms and Forest Mix Mushrooms will be available in Aldi from the end of August for six weeks across all of its stores.
Jimmy's Kitchen is a food manufacturing business specialising in potato-based products. Its Wexford rissole will be one of two products on sale in Aldi from May 31 for two weeks.
Naturally Cordial produces award-winning cordials using whole fruits to a traditional recipe. Its 330ml Lemon & Lime Leaf Cordial and 330ml Wexford Blackcurrant Cordial will also be on sale from May 31 for two weeks.
Last year, Aldi spent over €700m with Irish businesses, and this programme intends to support and nurture Irish businesses that have the potential to grow and prosper further.
