Swords Thunder explode onto scene

SWORDS Thunder have exploded onto the men's basketball scene over the past year, finishing runners-up in the National League Division 1 in their rookie season.

And while American import Alex Zurn grabbed the headlines with his remarkable scoring record, David Baker's charges were a long way from being a one-man team.

Take Dara McKeon, for example. The Fingal-based youngster averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds over the course of the campaign, is a former Ireland underage international and he also averaged 29 points and 20 rebounds when captaining Griffith College to their first-ever appearance in the National College semi-finals.

Griffith, incidentally, are also coached by Baker who named Dara runner-up in the Swords Thunder MVP awards at the end of the season.

Regarded as a real team player, Dara also previously captained his college team in the United States, Drew University in New Jersey.
