History was made in Rush when Loreto College Swords captured the Minor B Camogie Championship for the first time, at the expense of neighbours Loreto Balbriggan.

In sunny conditions the Swords girls started strongly and got some super scores through Sarah Power, Shannon Britnell, Ellie Kane, Sarah Smith, Keelagh Gargan and Annabelle Timothy.

Despite losing midfielder Teaghan Comber to injury - she replaced by Ava Kiernan - Loreto Swords took a 3-3 to 2-3 lead into the half-time interval, during which Clodagh Carroll replaced Chloe Heaslip.

On the restart Loreto Balbriggan came back very well and got some fantastic scores despite the best efforts of goalie Siobhan Sheppard.

Swords were being given a stern test, especially so as they suffered further injuries, but Anna Gorman, Lorna Cronin and Ciara Laird battled hard to keep the ball away from the scoring zone.

Sarah Power and Ellie Kane then combined to stem the tide with a vital point and that gave them the momentum to pull away in the remaining 10 minutes.

Grace Murray and Zoe Galligan, along with Timothy and Kane, were instrumental in ensuring that the sliotar stayed in the Swords forward line and they staved off a strong Balbriggan challenge to end up eight-point winners.

The winning girls would like to say a big thank-you to Miss Aoife Whelan who founded the team in the school last year and coaches them, along with Robbie Glynn and Kadee Morgan for their dedication and commitment.
