Upgrade of Main Street planned for this year
Fingal County Council has reported on its plans to start upgrading works on Main Street in Swords.
Cllr Brigid Manton (FF) asked the council 'when the work on upgrading Main street Swords will commence'.
She expalined: 'The state of the footpaths is a health and safety issue causing people to slip and trip.'
In a written response given at a recent Area Committee meeting, the local authority explained: 'Fingal has been successful in its Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) bid for the Sustainable Swords project.
'The Sustainable Swords project seeks to produce a place-making strategy focused on the strategic regeneration and compact development of Swords, in order to increase resilience of the local economy and to provide for an enhanced, accessible, inclusive, child-friendly and healthy urban environment.
'A key element of the Sustainable Swords project is to consolidate and strengthen Swords historic Town Centre, which includes the Swords Civic and Cultural Quarter and the Main Street.
'Upgrades and improvements to the Main Street will be considered within this context and as part of this overall framework. The procurement process for this project will commence in January 2020. In the meantime any necessary footpath repairs will be carried out as part of the routine maintenance programme.'
