The Irish Cancer Society is celebrating the awarding of a €4,400 cheque from a 12-year tradition in River Valley that sees walkers hit the trail in aid of the charity.

The annual River Valley Walk for the Irish Cancer Society is organised by Margaret Harris and she is very grateful to everyone who turned out on a wet day to walk for the charity. The event happened earlier in the year but recently, Margaret had the honour of handing over the giant cheque to a grateful charity.

Margaret thanked Peacock's lounge for providing all their help in putting the event together as well as local businesses who contributed like Fyffes, Supervalu, Keelings, Dunnes Stores, Centra and Keoghs and all those who contributed prizes to the raffle.

Thanks also goes to everyone who helped in the organisation of the event which seems to grow in popularity and participation, every year.

Margaret was stunned at the total raised by the event which she said was a bigger sum than ever before, despite the less than ideal weather on the day.
