While children around the county were heading to school for the first time, the pupils of Rivervalley Community National School had the added excitement of being the first in the door of a brand new school

River Valley Community National School under the patronage of DDLETB opened their doors to their very first class of Junior Infants on Thursday.

The school which is temporarily located on the Feltrim Road in Swords welcomed 14 very excited boy and girls to embark on their primary school journey.

Ms Anne McArdle Principal of River Valley CNS said: 'We are absolutely delighted to have a wonderful group of children and a really supportive group of parents who are committed to our new school.

'We are also thrilled to welcome Ms Maria Kildea, a Swords native as our Junior Infant Teacher. The boys and girls had a very busy, fun-filled first day at school. There were big smiles all round.'

The school will operate for the time being on a temporary site in Feltrim until a permanent school building is constructed for the school in the Fosterstown area of Swrods, serving River Valley and surrounding estates and in the long-term, addressing a serious deficit in school places in the area at primary level. This was the first wek in a new era with the opening of the school.
