Petition for new hospital bus route
An independent local election candidate in Swords is pushing to secure a new bus route from various parts of the town to Beaumont Hospital.
Independent candidate, James Fitzpatrick told the Fingal Independent: 'This summer will bring about another period of consultation for BusConnects, and with it, we as a community will be offered a new bus route between Swords and Beaumont Hospital.
'Last year, with the help of the general public, and a petition, I was able to bring our concerns direct to the NTA, via the Department of Transport and Shane Ross. The NTA consulted their route advisors, and returned with a basic plan. The service offered will run from the Rathbeale Road, through to Clongriffen, Beaumont Hospital then on to DCU. Ashbourne will get an improved direct service to Swords, and should link up with this service.
'I urge people in Swords to submit their own thoughts and ideas about this when the time arrives, to help make this a reality. And if you feel the route should be more direct, to and from, please say this, as the original consultations (30,000) regarding BusConnects has effected some changes.
'Whatever happens we need a direct connection. People who are sick can no longer be expected to transfer, cross busy roads, and wait often in wet and windy conditions. It's high time we put people's needs before profiteering from national contracts.'
