Party time as charity celebrates an amazing year for Remember Us
Remember Us spread its wings towards Swords recently when it hosted its party for adult members of the special needs club at Fingallians which provided a great curtain raiser for Christmas celebrations back at its new base in Balbriggan.
Special needs charity Remember Us in Balbriggan held their first Christmas party in the club's new base recently, marking an 'emotional' time for members, parents and staff alike.
Founded by 'Balbriggan Community Person of the Year', Nora Roban, Remember Us is a charity for young people and adults with special needs, and provides an important social outlet for members, as well as support for parents.
Following a mammoth fundraising effort, the charity has managed to purchase and fit-out a brand new permanent home for itself in Balbriggan and the Christmas Party was the start of what will hopefully many years of creating great memories for Remember Us members in the building.
Nora tells The Fingal Independent of the club's Christmas celebrations: 'We had a brilliant day, and we had over 200 people attending. She said: 'Dublin Panto came out dressed in their costumes, and we had ukulele players, DJs for a disco, and some great moves on the dance floor from the members. Then we had Santa as well in a lovely grotto. The members had a ball and the parents were overwhelmed with the new base as well.'
She said: 'It was a very emotional day I suppose, because it was the members' first event in a new base. We started this project four years ago to buy a base and fit it out, and it's a dream come true. We'll be organising parent support groups and lots of other things in January.'
The charity was presented with a cheque for €2,500 from Platinum Gym, along with a cheque for €9,000 from a group of people who fundraise by taking part in the Camino.
