National title for North County Dublin Macra

Padraic Kilcoyne

NORTH County Dublin Macra have won their first ever National title since the club was founded in 2009.

The final of the 30th Annual National Talent Competition was held at the Solstice Arts Centre in Navan Co. Meath earlier this month where Grace Dowling represented North County Dublin Macra in the Solo Instrumental Category.

On the night she played an O'Carolan tune called 'The Queen's Dream', followed by a reel called 'The Mason's Apron' on the button accordion. Grace won her category and was presented her award by the President of Macra na Feirme Kieran O'Dowd and organising committee member Mary Harrahill.

This was North County Dublin's first ever national title and Dublin Macra's first National Talent title in fourteen years.

North County Dublin Macra also had a very successful weekend recently at the Flavours of Fingal County Show in Newbridge House.

A fantastic weekend was had by all with fun games, animals, fish and a tractor competition at their stands.

On July 9, one of the Macra members Keith Fitzachary attended the National Irish Holstein Friesian Open Day.

He represented Dublin in the Under 23 Dairy Stock Judging Competition.

The last big event for North County Dublin Macra this summer will take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Club PRO Ciara Fitzachary will be representing Dublin in the Miss Macra Festival in Dundrum House Hotel.

North County Dublin Macra is based in the Swords area and meets on the first Friday of every month in Kettles Country House Hotel at 8.30pm.
