Kinetiks look to heroes for Inspirations concert
It's another busy period in the exciting lives of The Kinetiks, with the Fingal indie maestros joining a host of big names on stage this week. Ahead of the launch of the new EP next week, the foursome play The Academy this Friday, February 27th, as part of a special charity night entitled 'Inspirations'.
The show will feature an all-star line-up including Sinead O'Connor, Republic Of Loose, Shane McGowan, The Walls, The Blizzards, Fun Lovin Criminals, Engine Alley, Lir and the Dublin Gospel Choir.
Each of the acts will perform songs by their musical heroes, with more names set to be announced in the coming days.
This unique, one-off musical event will be held in honour of the late actor, Paul Newman, and all funds raised will go towards Barretstown Gang Camp. Barretstown was founded by Newman as part of his Hole in the Wall Gang Camps and offers children with serious illnesses and their families the opportunity to take some time out together as a family.
Every year over 1,000 children aged between seven and 17 come to Barretstown to take part in their unique programmes, going home with more confidence, self-esteem and most importantly the realisation that happiness is not just for healthy children.
Acts will perform songs by a range of artists including David Bowie, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Aside from the music, the night will feature a short retrospective of Newman's work.
Tickets are available through usual channels and priced at € 28 including a significantly reduced Ticketmaster fee. A week later, The Kinetiks play Andrew's Lane Theatre as part of Phantom FM's Phantom First Friday series. The gig will also see the official launch of the new 'Aye, Aye, Aye, Aye' EP. The band play the Spirit Store in Dundalk the next night. Log onto www.myspace.com/kine tiks1 to sample the new tunes.
