Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links has landed a major coup in bringing to the local venue, Ireland's biggest single day pro-am golf tournament which has a major new sponsor attached.

It's fitting that mac-group, Ireland's fastest growing construction company, is sponsoring Ireland's foremost single day Pro-Am. It's even more fitting that the company's CEO is a member at the course.

The takes place on July 16, at the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links. With a prize fund of €16,000.

The mac-group Pro-Am is Ireland's largest single day prize fund event and will attract the leading golf professionals from across the country.

Resident club professional, Conor Russell is confident that the event will attract all of the top resident Irish PGA professionals.

He noted that many of the PGA professionals already have strong links with the course, playing there week in week out over the winter months in the clubs increasingly popular Winter Series. He also stressed that the event is open to all and he invited any potential team to contact him.

Portmarnock Resort Director Barry O'Connor welcomed the event, thanking mac-group for their sponsorship.

He said that the creation of the Pro-Am was a further step in the local venue's ambitious plans to not alone build the club side of the Links but also to build the course's profile. He explained: 'This past winter we have added 80 new members and we are currently creating some exciting new facilities in house for all our golfers.'

Paul McKenna, founder and CEO of the sponsor mac-group said that they were delighted to be involved in the event.

He said: 'As a member of Portmarnock Links I have watched closely the on-going programme of works that is transforming the course into one of the finest links courses in Ireland. Portmarnock represents quality, commitment and skill - the tenacity to overcome challenges - these are the same attributes the mac brand conveys. It's appropriate for mac to be associated with a course of such heritage.'

Speaking of the event Michael McCumiskey, Regional Secretary of the PGA in Ireland, also thanked mac for their sponsorship. He said that the sponsorship was further recognition and endorsement of the importance of the role of the PGA professionals in golf in Ireland today. He said that this year local PGA members would play for in excess of €500,000 over the course of the season in pursuit of the Order of Merit title. That title is currently held by Damian McGrane.

It is expected that the event will host 50 teams on the day. Team entry is €550 for 3 amateurs, details available from resident club professional Conor Russell (crussell@portmarnock.com or phone 018666547.
