Free electrical waste collection

A FREE electrical waste collection is taking place across 46 estates in Swords this week with householders invited to discard any wanted goods.

It is being organised by the European Recycling Platform (ERP), in association with Fingal County Council, and is running all this week. ERP will collect anything with a plug or a battery free of charge right from outside your door, simply leave the disconnected electronic waste outside your home. If the item is heavy staff will be able to assist with the lifting of the waste. Martin Tobin, CEO, ERP Ireland said: 'We are delighted to be partnering with Fingal County Council on this initiative. There are rogue traders operating in the greater Dublin area that are collecting waste under false pretences and not disposing of it properly. At ERP we ensure that all waste collected is treated in the correct manner.' Electrical waste that ERP will collect includes Large electrical appliances e. g. washing machines; Small household electrical goods e.g. kettles and toasters; Computer equipment and home entertainment ; and all used batteries Alain Kervaillant, Assistant Scientist, Fingal County Council commented: 'We welcome this innovative initiative from ERP, it's a fantastic opportunity for residents living in the Swords area to dispose of electrical waste free of charge and without having to leave their homes. We would encourage as many as possible to get involved and recycle their electronic waste.' If someone comes knocking at your door and is not an ERP staff member do not give them your waste. ERP is currently the only compliance scheme approved by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. If you feel that someone is potentially a rogue trader please call Fingal County Council at 01 8905983. For more information on collections
