Balbriggan is in mourning at the loss of a young and talented teacher who died tragically in a bus crash in Dubai where she was taking a year out to teach in the Emirates.

Fiona Geraghty was just 27-years-old and was 'just a lovely, beautiful girl' according to a close family relative.

The bus Fiona was travelling was carrying 31 passengers last Thursday when the crash happened in Dubai.

As news broke of the tragic accident, Fiona's parents were in Lanzarote where they had been celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and were shattered by the news of their daughter's untimely death.

Fiona was taking a year out from her job at St Molaga's SNS in Balbriggan. The school said she was 'lively but calm, strong but gentle, innovative but creative in her work and loved by staff and pupils alike'.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian in his 30s has died on the road in Rush at the weekend. Balbriggan gardaí are carrying out an investigation into the accident, which happened on Whitestown Road in rush around 1pm on Friday.
