Drink driver drove wrong way up the slipway at M1 junction
A man who was three times over the legal drink driving limit and drove the wrong way along the Naul Road has been disqualified from driving for three years.
Vasil Istrati (25) stumbled out of his car when gardai stopped him and his front tyre was flat, Swords District Court heard.
Garda Robert Dillon gave evidence he observed Istrati, who was driving a black Skoda Octavia car, drive the wrong way up the slipway on the Naul Road at the M1 junction on January 9th.
He said Istrati then drove the wrong way around a roundabout and continued to drive on the wrong side of the Naul Road.
'He stumbled from the car and his front tyre was flat,' said Gda Dillon, who also said the defendant's eyes were bloodshot.
He said Istrati told him he was 'heading home.' He said Istrati was arrested and gave a breath sample of 68mg/100ml. The legal limit is 22mg/100ml of breath.
Istrati, of Hampton Wood in Balbriggan pleaded guilty to drink driving on the Naul Road on January 9th. He further pleaded guilty to careless driving at Junction 6 on the slipway on the M1.
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said the 25-year-old was at a party before he decided to drive home. 'He has learnt his lesson and made a mistake on this occasion,' said Ms D'Arcy and asked Judge Dermot Dempsey if he could postpone the disqualification for a time so the defendant can get his affairs in order.
Judge Dempsey refused to postpone the disqualification and imposed a three year ban and a €750 fine for drink driving. He further fined him €200 for careless driving.
